I saw this exhibition last year and it is quite interesting but it should properly be described as being associated with the Titanic as it does not contain any actual Titanic artifacts as such, unlike the Titanic exhibition currently being staged at the O2.

But still worth a look if you find exhibits of the era of interest and there are a number of items which featured in the film.

            Hi Colin,

I think you must be confusing this exhibition with a different one, as White Star Memories have not exhibited for a number of years. Their last exhibition was a smaller one on board the Nomadic in Belfast. That was in 2006.

There are also a number of items actually from the Titanic – I won’t name them as that would spoil the fun of the exhibition!

So far almost 2000 people have seen the exhibition and found it fantastic – as can be seen from the visitors comments book at RCD.

            Cheers,

May well be so Nigel, the one I saw last year was at Basingstoke and that included a lot of costumes and props from the Cameron film so I assumed it was the same as the one you are mentioning. Then there is the one in Southampton Maritime Museum, if it is still there. So that’s four!

The White Star Memories Exhibition also has a number of costumes and props from the Cameron movie, but these are only one part of the whole exhibition and I know that occasionally they have loaned the costumes to other exhibitions, so you might have seen them at an event in Basingstoke, it’s certainly possible.

It is however very important to clarify that the costumes on show at Southampton (Honour & Glory exhibition) are actually replicas – they are NOT the costumes seen in the Cameron movie.
The costumes on show at RCD are the actual outfits worn by Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio & Billy Zane.

And with over 300 items on display, you certainly won’t be spoilt for choice!!

                  Nigel,

Yes, the Basingstoke Exhibition was entitled ‘Titanic, Honour and Glory’ although it had a lot more on show than at Southampton where the space available was more limited. However it did bill itself as having the actual film costumes see here.

Anyway, best of luck with your exhibition and I hope it is successful, anything Titanic is always a major attraction.

                    Hi Colin,
Honour & Glory Is a good exhibition, no doubt about it with some wonderful items on display. I have no issue at all with them or the exhibition and wish them all success.

But you only have to look at the “blue” dress shown in the H&G gallery and claimed to have been worn by kate Winslet to see that it is totally the incorrect colour and has not come within 5,000 miles of Ms Winslet – let alone been featured in the film!

The real dress from the film (which the H&G one claims to be) is actually made of crushed velvet and silk and is a deep Purple colour – NOT blue (Watch the movie if you don’t believe me!)

Re the other outfits on display, it is also important to realise that there were more than one version of each outfit made for the film, so it is entirely possible and right for two or more costumes to be on display at different locations and part of different collections, and be able to legitimately claim that “this is the costume from the film” – but not in the case of the “Blue” dress featured within H&G.
                    Cheers,
