        keel.jpgframes 6 7 8.jpgframes 4 5.jpgframes 1 2 3.jpgHi All

I found parts of a plan on Flea Bay which I copy and over lay onto the Eileen plans.

With a bit of resizing, I ended up with a small plan of the boat.

Up to the copy shop and bingo my next project !!!

What semi started to project is a number of forum guys using Ikea wooden blinds for strip planking and one of our club members saying you have not lived until you have done a strip planked boat!!!

I pickup the blind from the tip shop for $5au !!!

So game on, it's built a boat with a few differences!!!

As the boat is wider, the wheelhouse has a raised section in front of it with a skylight and the hatch is larger.

Access into the hull will be far better!!!

I think I will be able to get my hands fully into the hull !!!

I started cutting out the frames and keel with 4mm marine plywood.

Hopefully get it all setup and glued before one of the granddaughter's wedding this weekend !!!

The Handbrake(the one who semi controls me/ WIFE) has decided to take her Garage Queen car !!!

Kept you all posted on the built.

        Regards

          Hi All

Whilst gluing and setup the keel and frames, I did a few measurements between the Helen and the Juliet 4.

          Width Helen 245mm Julieth 4 305mm.

          Hatch 155 x 95mm, 170 x 115mm.

          Wheelhouse 90 x 120mm, 115 x 190mm (width and the longest side).

Once I cut out the frames that cross the middle of each I will able to get my open hand in at about a 10 degree angle.

                        Hi Harry,

Good to some proper building how do you plank the bulwarks without the bulkheads extended up to the rail?

I build upside down on a board mostly, but it's nice to see the hull shape developing in your hand, well done.

                        Regards Ray

                          Hi Ashley and Ray

I have the two Hellen fishing boats, so the Julieth (may be rename "Allo Allo) this is number tree.

Yes, Ray, I am building these one upside down.

As it is my first strip planked boat, it may not be to the correct planking way, but, I do it to the way it works for me!!!

I am liking Ikea wooden blinds for the planking.

The bulwarks are going to be 2.5mm plywood like on the Hellen kits.

                          Beers and Cheers

Finished planking the hull to the deck and fibreglass inside and a coat of resin on the out side.

Looks like a few hours with the sander required on the outside.

Will recoat after the bulwarks and rub strakes are fixed.

Added a few pics of the Hellen versus the Julieth in wheelhouse and hatch size for you gentleman that still the Hellen fishing boats.

I started on the bulwarks by epoxy gluing the posts to the frames and will add a few more after the deck is installed and planked.

                                      Also started on the dingy.

Added 14 and 1/2 pound of ballast, installed rudder with oiler, servo, servo linkage and the motor.

First coat of paint which showed up a few dips and cracks.

I feel a first dip in the wet stuff coming up.

                                          Still waiting for the prop!!!

Ran up the motor today at full speed on 2S Lipo (7.2 volts) and will be throttle end stopping at 50%.

                                              HI Ashley

Resin and matting inside and two coats of resin outside.

Four hours on sanding the outer to the first coat.

More filling and another two coats.

Smooth as a baby's bottom, but reddish!!!

First dip in the wet stuff tomorrow !!

The wheelhouse and hatch opening are so must larger then the Hellen/ Eileen that you can puta hand in each and shake hands!!!!

Pick up a new set of xmas lights, 3 AA batteries and 17 foot of bulb led lights and the cable is brown which will hide well in the boat.

Maybe down lights around the railing for deck lights!!!

Used a rotator cutting knife like my wife uses for cutting material to cut up veneer wood.

It's not perfect and requires a bit of work to straitening out the edges , but the veneer was free!!

Going with dark(Jarrah) and light(Huon Pine) veneer for the deck, like on the runabout.

I was given another boat which has been started and I am playing with that, but, that's another story.

Just been planking the deck, it's looking a bit showy for a fishing boat, but, it's French !!!

Handed another boat which is unfinish project via two owners, of which the last owner made serious repairs to the first owner all for the better.

Walk into the cheap shop today(Shiploads) and Christmas LED lights 17 foot with 50 LED lights, battery box with switch $5au.17 foot of light fit into a fishing boat, but, if hide all the extra lights in the hull lifting the hatch will blind you!!!
