Lochinvar MM1410 in the myhobbystore shop is a 17" Clyde Puffer, a double size model would be close to your 36" requirement.

A decent photocopy shop will be able to enlarge (or reduce) a drawing to the exact scale that you require. You just have to define the increase (or decrease) as a percentage.

              Brian,

As David Marks says, you can always get a plan reduced or enlarged to the scale you want to build at, although there might potentially be a slight advantage in starting from as large a scale plan as possible, as a plan intended for a larger scale model is likelier to have plenty of details, whereas a smaller scale plan might have some of the finer detail omitted.

This said, I am aware of the following, commercially available plans for Puffers:

              1. My Hobbystore has five different Puffer plans, Lochinvar, Raylight, Skylight, Inchcolm and "Clyde Puffer" (see **LINK**).

              2. Brown, Ferguson and Sons (**LINK**) in Glasgow still publish all the Harold A. Underhill plans, amongst which is a 1:48 plan for the Puffer Sealight. These plans are available, either direct from BF&S or from various sellers, e.g. The Model Dockyard (see **LINK**, 3rd plan from the top).

              3. The Model Dockyard also has other Puffer plans, including Pibroch at 1:50 (**LINK**, 8th plan from the top), and Clochlight at 1:36 (see **LINK** ; you'll also find the Raylight, Skylight and Inchcolm mentioned above on this page),

              4. Kingston Mouldings sell a 1:24 GRP hull of the Puffer Inchcolm (see **LINK**) which, if I understand their website correctly, comes with a scale plan. However, I have no idea if this plan is available separately, but one could always ask if one were interested.

Good luck with your plan hunting,

              /Mattias

interestingly most of those links flop out for one reason or another. Brown would be my choice or free plans from the internet: http://freeshipplans.com/

Joe, the post is two tears old, so the links will be out of date. I expect Brian has long since finished his model. The main supplier, my hobby store plans has been covered at length on here, and a new web page will be active soon. Plans are currently available by phone.

                    Chas.

did I give bad information? the links I provided all seemed ready to ship – especially the "free" ones! someone other than the original poster might be thinking about building a Puffer. that's exactly how I came across the links. I probably shouldn't own-up to having Model Railroader Magazines going back to the late '30s. I just assume all information is new until you've seen it.

good grief; I have links 10 years old that still work. do you have one to your hobby store? thanks

Hi Joe, some old links work, some don't as you have noticed, and the model market is very volatile with companies vanishing all the time. The reference to 'my hobby store' is the plans service that used to be available from this site, and is / was the source for the plans from model boats / model maker magazine. As I mentioned, information about the changes can be read on this forum.

If anyone needs help finding plans now, they only have to ask. I'm not very fond of the free download plans, the resolution can be very low, and not always well drawn. Plus, by the time you have them printed, errors can creep into the enlargements, unless great care is taken.

You sound like an experienced ship modeler, and eager to contribute to the forum, so please let us know what you are working on, with pictures if you can.

never built a ship in my life. maybe this, or next winter. model railroad & cars take most of my modelbuilding budget & energy. but that Puffer is creeping into being.

I'm sure you will enjoy the build if you go ahead, the skills you have already built up will be a big help.

The Puffers make great models with lots of scope for personalising them, and adding all those touches of realism that many railway modelers are so good at. They're fun to sail too.
