hi am a wargamer and modeller a friend of mine and I did a project to make a 1/72 landing ship tank ,heres what we came up with ..

thomas

Hi guys aint posted for a while so thought I would post some pictures of my latest project.
A few months ago I had a conversation with Thomas which went some thing like this "I've plans for a 1/200 scale LST do you think a flower class corvette can be converted for the hull"
After looking at the plan and a Corvette hull the obviouse conclussion was no not with out a lot of work much easy'er to scratch build the whole thing so after a good planning session a deal was struck.

The results so far

The hull coming togeather quite a big build at just over 3 feet long

Rear structure

just to add some scale my old Revell/matchbox shermans provides some scale rememember though the plan is only in 1/200 scale I think its looking pretty good so far and the only thing I've felt needed scaling up was the bow doors by a few millimetres

More to come as the build progress's.
The bridge area coming along nicely showing 2 of 4 20mm AA gun tubs

Looking into the tank deck, this section is a lift of piece.

side view of the stern

And the bow

Ramp to the upper deck which can carry more tanks/vehicles and 2 of the 3 forward gun tubs not glued in yet as these will be raised which will probably house 2 single 40mm AA and 1 Dual 40mm AA.

And the ramp closed
"Hi guys finally got back to this this week and thought I would post a few pictures

Starboard side LCVP mounted on its davit needs quite a bit of detail yet so it looks a little rough

Looking towards the bridge side view of the davits
Hello gents I've had one of those periods you get where I really can't pick up a paint brush let alone do any modelling thankfully I'm back in the swing of it so I thought its time for an up date.

Pointy end of the ship with three of the gun tubs one of which is a 40mm quad mount the other two are 40mm twin mounts.

midship showing some of the Carly floats being added the uprights which their attached to are a bit improvisation as these I think were attached to the ships railing which I'm not going to add as they'll be the first thing to break.

Bow doors which open and close wide enough for an Airfix Buffalo.

I've actually had to learn a few technics to get this far with it the gun tubs in particular were a bit of a night mare to get right as the pile of discarded tubs would show, as you can see though its nearly complete just a case now of filling in the detail which I'm hoping I can do over the next week.

Well its finally finished though I have seen a few bits that need more attention with the paint brush.
I've really enjoyed putting this together but there were times I doubted it was going to be completed.
Again like the LCT I could have packed a lot of detail onto the decks such as ammo lockers ramp hoist and electric anchor motor but again had to stop myself this is a wargame piece not a shelf queen and I figure
A good set of crew figures would help bring the decks alive a bit.

Most of the Allied landing craft fleet were pretty low on the maintenance list so looked pretty battered not entirely sure I've done that.

a pretty packed top deck.
Insides of the gun tubs look a little to clean so need rusting up a bit.

The bridge area and LCVP's straps holding the boats need a bit of a wash.
Thomas. Nice one and unusual for the forum mbeing a wargames piece. You will need a big table for that!!

I have built a few landers in my time but of course at a larger scale and not to so much detail..

Hello Thomas,

Great build! Really nice! So you say this is a 1/72 model? Were did you get the Carleys? I´ve been trying to find some commercial supplier but what I´ve seen is too expensive… One detail only I would point out, if I may… the pictures showing the deckload of lorries and halftracks… they´re pointing the wrong way!!crook You should correct that in your games, or you´ll be giving the enemy lots of time before you can unload them!!

Cheers!

Guido.
