Decided to make a separate thread for SloMo, as it was getting very complicated!

      Great news, chaps!

SloMo now running with two brushless motors!

Had a faulty ESC all along!

Found out by fitting the Ellie ESC and it worked first time!

And to make really sure, we fitted the faulty ESC in Ellie and it didn't work…..As expected

Next test without the sponsons, will be Saturday morning…..Can't wait!

      Pleased as Punch!……..Bob

            Hi Bob,

I hate to say "we told you so", but…

            cheeky

Good to hear you have that issue resolved, I can't wait to see SLO-MO stop living up to its name.

I think it is a good decision to leave the sponsons off, with these two brushless babies in control this boat should go like hell!

Make sure you have someone shoot a video too.

I know you suspected a faulty ESC, Dave…..I just wouldn't give up, because at that time, I was fully embroiled in trying to follow the set up instructions

The main reason why the faulty Esc was not spotted earlier, was that is behaved as a working one!

My pal Duckie happened to call in today and he couldn't understand why the faulty unit wouldn't work in the Ellie cruiser…..As it emitted the correct startup bleep code

Anyway, I'll hold my hands up and eat some more chuckle egg?

One good result from all this, is that, I've learned such a lot, that I'll go for brushless every time!

Perhaps it can still be saved?….It may not have been set up properly at the manufacture stage?

Will try and phone them tomorrow

It's probably a blown end stage… Y'know, there's three phases, if the FET's of one of the phases is toast the ESC will beep just fine but when you try to rev it, you get a whole lot of stuttering, at best…

I don't know how this ESC is built, but most ESC's I had my hands on were either not repairable (covered with resin) or not worth the hassle.

Sailed SloMo2 this morning and it sailed beautifully!…..As we all expected?

No sponsons and twin brushless motors on song!

                  Frightfully fast and fantastmigorical!

Almost too fast at times, for us two old wrinklies, as we had difficulity in seeing far enough ahead as we charged about the lake……into the path of the buoys and wildlife!

The battery lasted for about 20 minutes….Not bad?

Here are a few pix…………….. Duckie`s video will follow shortly…

I like the way, SloMo leans into the turns

Bob. At last. A Slo-Mo that goes fast !! Well done (eventually). Great colour scheme.

Still think the rear fin is too small but that`s just my personal taste. Not quite airborne but getting there!

                      Good job.

Many thanks for all your kind comments

It's been an uphill battle at times, but was worth it

The faulty ESC was undetectable in the early stages of setting up and it's probably a good idea to standardise on one make motor combination and if possible, have a few in stock

I can really recommend going the brushless route they are so pleasant to work with, they are so smooth and quiet at low revs

A few problems in the early stages is a good way of getting to understand the workings of these new motors and removes the nail biting mystery of it all!

                                    Hi Bob,

Looking good on the quick dashes!

Now just train the driver to open up the throttle more; a racing boat like this should be dashing around like mad.

All of this dashing about has made me think about designing a 'stripped down' version of the Ellie boat.

At the moment its just a notion to create an open cockpit, vintage style stepped hull speed boat with a lightweight frame and three of these brushless thingies to push it along.

Based upon Slo Mo2s performance a lighter and more powerful hydroplane version should almost fly.

All I need is a willing volunteer to build and sail it.

Hoping to sail SloMo 2 and Lady Joyce today

                                                    Should be an interesting comparison

Bob. Its a bit ironic that SloMo2 , based on a cabin cruiser, is more successful than your orig boat based on a super duper hi-tec hull design !

Should be interesting, as you say, sailing both together,

Well done on award; No annual awards at ouir pond, perhaps I should instigate some…

not sure what categories we could use.. biggest squirter, best use of cheap but strong man-made board, best wild beast, craft most attractive to young mums, best Top gear vehicle and so on…
