      Hi,
When it comes to modelling I prefer to make large scale models. For example when it comes to movie prop replicas, its weapons ranging from han solo’s Mauser based blaster to full size daleks.

So what Im asking is for ideas for ships for me to build, I am looking for 1/72 scale and larger. The one ship I would love to build is a vosper corvette, but in searching for plans of this I have hit a dead end. The thread of the build of the long beach has really caught my eyes, if someone can point me in the direction of a set of plans for this then that would be great.

To help you understand what type of modeller I am, I built a 14ft by 10ft  workshop in my back garden which involved me digging up a pond and loosing a large chunk of my garden lol. All this was so that I can start on my 1/5 scale focke wulf. This particular model has a 114″ length from prop to tail and 85″ wingspan.

You should contact The Fat Controller he is a big model man, or should I say a man who makes big models. Just type in “barrel back” in key words at the top of the page to see a thread on one of his builds.

A quick and easy way to get large scale plans is to get a normal set of plans and then ‘blow them up’ with a photo copier until you get to the scale that suits you.
You will end up with lots of sheets of A3 drawings which then have to be ‘cut and stuck’ together and………you will have a very big set of plans.

The downside is that the scale will be weird.

The trick is decide on the ship you want 2 build and then get as many pic’s, drawing’s etc that you can. Floating dry dock do plans for USS Long Beach as well as other large warships (mostly in 1/96th but easily scaled up). A club mate of mine has a very detailed collection of plans available for a variety of Russian warships ranging from corvette’s, right up 2 the Kirov class battlecruiser’s!! Send me a PM if you would like his contact details!!

                Cheers Bruce

Thanks for the info  guys, As the way I have been scaling up at present time was by hand. Its a long and annoying way to do it as well lol. I have a few plans at the moment that I have been contemplating and the one thats catching my eye the most is the graf zepplin carrier.

Ah…the blueprints.com. Great site, and having printed off a ship that takes fancy, Take it to a proper print shop, and have it enlarged to whatever size you want,, 6 feet copies no problem.

Perfect just what I was looking for. Thanks for the help guys, watch out for some build threads coming soon. Although I often begin two models at the same time so when one is sat waiting for the it to set I get on with the other, you could call it staggered modelling.

Well the new addition of model boats have just turned up and the free plan is getting checked over right now. I feel another trip to the model shop for supplies is in order again.
