Its time to start putting the deck planks on my TITANIC even at 1/100 scale the planks are only about 2mm wide if cut some mahogany down to 0.6 mm on my table saw the cut it into 2mm strips on my band saw but im not overly happy with the end result and it takes bloody ages to makle enough material to cover any size of area,

Im sure i read somwhere not sure if it was this forum about using plasticard drawing lines in a black pencil then colouring the plasticard to suit,

has anybody used this method and do they have pics of the finished result ?

and if possible could they give me a step by step guide?

                Hello Ron

                It`ll be waterproof after varnishing

Forgot to mention that I used diluted acrylic paints to give the deck a random colour….. I used yellow ochre, burnt umber and raw sienna

The paper is obtainable from Artist`s supplies, it measures 0.35mm thick and I think it`s called 300gram cartridge paper

                        Hi Ron.
I planked my Matilda with 3.5mm planks over a 2.5mm ply subdeck.
The veneer came as samples of Southern Myrtle, and it’s used in highend interior decor.
The samples should be FREE!! and they are a bit smaller than A4 paper. The nominal thichness is 0.5mm so be careful with the sandpaper!
I made a jig out of a length of dressed timber, with 2 bits of balsa(?)  the required thickness (in my case 3.5mm) glued on, and a bit wider than your piece of veneer.
Place the veneer up against the dressed timber(between the 2 bits of balsa) place a straight edge against the 2 blocks of balsa, and then slice the veneer with a sharp craftknife.
It’s quick, and with care, accurate.
I drew the calking on one edge of the plank, and used PVA glue.
Have a look in my gallery at the result
                        Good Luck
                        Mick
ps I don’t own a big bad band saw!
