I am currently constructing a 34″ model of the RAF Crash Tender (from an original Aerokits plan – a retro project). I am using twin 545 motors to power it and would like to ask members advice on which propellers to use – 2 bladed or 3 bladed and of what diameter?
It is interesting to note that the full size craft had both motors rotating in the same direction.

Rick. As an interim suggestion, waiting for someone to reply who has built something similar, I  suggest a pair of nice brass three bladers would suit. They look nicer than plastic ones and generally have more pitch than said plastic items. As to size… I would have thought 35mm would suit the motors, assuming they are standard 540`s. I would also have thought that a prop in the 30-40mm bracket would look about right on the model. Its worth bearing in mind that the prop  has to suit the motor more than the boat, so if you want a slightly larger prop then perhaps a pair of 600 can-types might be a better match. Does the plan not indicate a size???   I am not a fan of two blade types unless its for outright speed.  Ashley

Thanks for your suggestions Ashley, I think I will probably start off with a couple of plastic ones initially then go for brass when I see how things go, as brass can be rather expensive. The plan being of 1950’s vintage indicates a 3.5cc i/c engine, rather messy and not welcome on many lakes these days.

In my experience its no good trying plastic props and then going on to brass ones as the characteristics are very different. I know thats not much use to you but there it is!  Ashley
