Some years ago I came across a photo of a TID in dazzle cammo and looking closer I could see that the boat had been fitted with a small cannon on a platform over the forward winch and that machine guns had been mounted either side of the funnel.

Now that I have the time to research this particular tug I have narrowed the search down to a few boats that were exported to Scandinavia at the begining of WW2.

As I like to build on a large scale (this model is 6ft (2m) long I have to think about storage and transport problems so this model has been built in two sections and with a n internal free flooding area of lower hull which will mean the model will require no extra ballast (easier to launch and recover)

Hull sections showing battery compartment in the bow and the motor compartment in the stern, both compartments are built down into the free flooding section so as to get the weight low down for hull stability.

This photo shows the holes in the models flat bottom which will allow rapid filling and draining of the free flooding tanks.

I will add some more photos as the build continues but progress will be slow as I am spending more time on my barrel back at the moment.

          Hello Paul

To save even more weight………………you could remove the hull bottom completely ……………( I can see that the holes look very pretty and business like)…..and you could end up trying to lift a heavy hull full of water while it drains……………and some hull side to a depth to just below the water line?

It would look a bit odd out of the water, but in the water…………..nobody would see it!

          Just a suggestion

            Hi Bob

That was my first idea but experiments proved that if the model rolled in rough water then the water level in the flooding tank changed..thus making the model unstable. so I am using the surrounding air pressure to keep the water in the hull.
Its the same principal as inverting a glass of water in a sink full of water then lifting it out base first, the water stays in the glass until lifted clear of the sink, then of course the water falls out.
To avoid the problem of lifting a hull full of water out of the lake I am fitting a valve to the top of each compartment to release the pressure

            Paul
