Peter. Pictures please, even partly built.

          My modus operandi……
Battery somewhere in the middle for balance, and under a hatch big enough for ease of replacement.
Speed controller, anywhere, can be slid in spaces, unless you have a TURBO Puffer and need to have a lot of cooling air over the ESC.
Rudder servo, preferably able to be got at easily, simple linkage to the rudder tiller …not to complicated, I like a simple straight bit of wire.. I use plated garden wire for this.SO therefore behind the battery to the rear of the Puffer.
Reciever…preferably NOT near the motor or ESC in order to avoid interference, but otherwise anywhere. Something else that can be slid into a nook or cranny.
How big is this puffer??  Are you using a slim NiMh or a fatso 6v gel cell? I would have though that with a puffer of any size you should have loads of room for the bits. Ashley

And to add to what Ashley has said, don’t install anything in such a way that it can’t be removed for servicing at a future date. This applies particularly to the tiller attached to the rudder stock – if you accidentally reverse into something and the rudder takes the brunt then you need to be able to fix it!

At the Beale park show last year there was a fantastic model of the WW2 KG5 or some other battleship. Big model, not quite finished, but really well detailed. But the access to the innards, and the innards was well and truly packed with turret motors, wiring, sound….you name it…was via horrible little hatches here and there and inadequate superstructure apertures. i shuddered inwardly at the thought of something going wrong and having to fix it ! In case you didn’t get my E-Mail in reply to yours (and for the benefit of other Slipway Puffer builders), the servo is mounted as per the drawing on the plan, under the wheelhouse cover. The AA batteries are fitted in 2 x 2 line astern formation along the bottom of the hull, in front of the motor. The receiver and ESC are cased units and can be slipped in on top of the battery pack.
There’s a few photos of the prototype installation on the Model Boat Mayhem website, under “Your Models” > Dave Milbourn.
                Hope this helps.
