      Hello Everyone.

      Before I commence a trial and error investigation can anyone advise me if it's possible to easily separate the motor from its gear assembly for the type of geared brushed motors shown in the photo? To my eyes it looks like the gears are permanently joined to the motor but I might be wrong.

      I was thinking of oiling the gears because the boat hasn't seen much use in a long time.

          Paul. The red covers will slide off quite easily (a flat screwdriver may be required for assistance) and then the gears can be oiled, no need to separate them from the motors.

          possibly you may have to slide the shafts out and take the couplings off to do this, or may be not !

            Yes, it's very easy, just 3 screws holding the gearbox to the motor. However, you don't need to remove the gearbox to clean and oil it, the plastic cover just slips off and you have complete access to all the gears.

            If you do decide to remove the box, watch out for the tiny spacers that will fall out when the screws are withdrawn, I do it over a box just in case.

              As Ashley says it is very easy to remove the cover to either maintain or remove the gears.

                I drilled a small hole in the plastic cover, just large enough to allow me to insert the plastic tube on an aerosol can of light machine oil. The occasional squirt while the motor is running seems to do the trick without the need even to remove the cover.
                Works for me.
