hi, I am looking for help on the following. at the moment I have three boats that need a min of two channels to run. I would like a good transmitter which would allow me to just buy receivers for each boat without the need to buy extra transmitters etc. now I am not really interested in the cheap end transmitters as I have two let me down, but I am also not wanting to pay silly money for one that is mainly for planes. so can anyone please let me know of a good sound set up that I can purchase here in the UK. thanks

Do you want a "computer" radio or a basic set i.e. with maybe just servo reversing and end-point adjustment? The other question would be the maximum number of channels which you might need.

hi david, this is just for a live steam boat, a sailing boat and a 2nd yacht. at the moment the two sail boats will only ever need two channels, I may wish to add a few things to the live steam boat but it will work out at 4 channels max. I don't care if they are computer or basic as long as I can purchase the receivers for the transmitter and it all works. m

I would suggest, from personal experience, that a Hitec radio would be a good choice. The Optic 5 with Minima 6 receiver is a basic set which will give you servo reverse on all channels and end-point adjustment on the rudder and throttle/sail channels. New receivers are less than £30 and are full range, not like the cheapo "park radios". This is the best on-line price I've found today **LINK**

I use an Optic 6 and an Aurora 9, both with the Minima receivers. These are computer radios and more expensive than the 5. Both my sets are on 2.4GHz.

4 channel sets are usually two of two axis sticks. Extra functions might need switches rather than awkward stick waggling, so a higher channel count (5,6,7) might make more sense even if not all are used.

Since planes are overwhelmingly the main market for more comprehensive radios, that is what the market mostly consists of. Ailerons and elevators and landing gear and suchlike need translating into something useful.

                Otherwise, what Dave said.
