      Hi Forum,

I have a number of Hi-Tec RC in FM for submarines but looking for a 2.4 for my surface boats.

most seem to be for aircraft – looking for 6+ channels to handle expansion

Ask that question of ten modellers and you'll get eleven different answers. Many use the FrSky and its clones, mainly because it's cheap. My opinion of buying radios from PROC is well known. I too am a Hitec fan and I have an Aurora 9 set. Like nearly all computerised radios with this amount of channels, you can allocate any receiver channel to any input device on the Tx. There's a range of 2-way and 3-way switches and rotary levers. I bought mine for £80 unused from a bloke who'd bought it from an aeromodeller because I think the manual frightened the life out of both of them!

            Hi Ian

I use the Turnigy IA6 which is the same as the Flysky A6.

            Very happy with the unit.

Note the mode 1 or mode 2 is the throttle for IC engines and no self centering.

I got a mod kit from Banggood to make it self centering.

The dearer V2 receiver with the plug sockets on the side.

Six channels and the two on the top end, one is for sensors for temp, voltage and rpm.

If getting the sensors make sure the are the standard servo ones and not the small socket ones.

Based on Dave's advice I bought a Hitec. Being my first I just bought a basic Optic 5 which is very good but doesn't have a memory for more than one boat.

So I've now bought their new Flash 8 which has many more switches etc. than I want, being primarily for aircraft, but importantly has the multi model memory. It has 8 channels.

I have used Futaba for 45 years – starting with a 2 channel 27Mhz that still works today.

Now I use Futaba 2.4 GHz 10CG 10 Channel Radio. It has a 15 model memory. Apart from the main 4 channels on sticks there are 3 variable knobs and 2 variable sliders so extremely useful for ships and boats.

You can assign channels to the particular knobs and switches, change the amount of travel and mix the channels so you can have master and slave channels etc. It is capable of lots more useful things than I have written here.

For my submarine I use a Futaba 29MHz FM 'Gold' system from the 80's.
