        greetings all

Probably a silly question and has a very simple answer,

When the transmitter is switched off the brushed motor still runs very slowly, when the transmitter is switched on again the motor stops. An answer would be appreciated

          Easy!

The transmitter should be turned on BEFORE the receiver and turned off AFTER the receiver. Leaving the Rx on with the Tx off leaves the system open to any stray signal, so DON'T DO IT!

              Greetings all

How can I extend the three cables that come out of a brushless motor, does someone market a kit to extend them?

              Regards

              Bryan

You can purchase the 'silicon wire' in the required gauge & the 'Bullet' connectors, from the 'Component Shop' & make up extension leads to fit your particular requirement.

I think you'd be better advised to lengthen the battery and RX connections and leave the 3 wires alone – that's if you really have to increase any of them. There's a lot of heavy-duty signal pulsing going through those three cables and the longer they are then the more effective they are as aerials for unwanted RFI. Like a 50mph speed limit, they're the way they are for a reason.

                    Hi All

I extended the three wire on my electric outboard into the boat to the ESC and do not have a problem at all.

This post grabbed my attention because I'm planning my first brush less installation, and longer wires would be more convenient. I did a bit of googleing and was drawn to some posts on rc universe on the same question. Broadly speaking the answers fell into 2 catagories, people like me, lots of experience with good basic knowledge, and genuine electronic experts who understand the system and the possibilities for trouble.

The electronic experts recommend avoiding lengthening the wires. Naturally there are examples of people who have done it without problems, life is like that. For me it is better to tweak the installation than take a risk, I've spent a long time building the model and I would be foolish to install an avoidable risk.

Just popping back to this post to bring to your attention Dawnmist's excellent Lithimon 234 unit. I have one in Huntress and I get exceptionally long and smooth motor runs with it. Here's a link http://www.dawnmist.org/rcm.htm#2

                          Greetings all

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice, I think this is like the eternal difference of opinion between should you grease the prop shaft or oil it, I have taken all advice on board and as I have already ordered the extension leads I will see what happens. I will just mention that I use a Mtroniks 50amp brushless esc on all my brushless installations , doesn't need setting up.

Dave you mention that are 66 today, compared to me you are a mere boy , I will be 80 next month and have only been building Model boats for 3years, before that I did build a Sabre jet in around 1951.

                          Regards

Dave,i have 3 brushless units in my MTB ,during testing all was fine but when it came installing the ESC,s in there correct locations i had lengthen the 3 wires to the center motor ,after doing this i got massive interference with the sound unit , moved the ESC and reduced the wires to std length problem solved .

Like any potential problem there's always some poor soul who's discovered it the hard way and another who's been blissfully unaware and unaffected by it. As a rule long power wires are to be avoided, if only because thick power wire is expensive!

I wasn't around in 1951 except for the last couple of weeks, and I don't remember much about those. Even from this short distance I don't know whether 80 is to be aspired to or dreaded. When you're 94 I'll let you know what I've decided.

That's an interesting piece of kit Dave. What do you do if you have an ESC like the Hawk ones where you set the number of cells? Do you still have to do that?

I use a programming card and I always set the number of cells to "Auto" on my ESC's.
