I have a variety of cheap Radiolinks – T4us and T7Fs – which are ideal cheap radios for Eezebilts. And I noticed that the training lead is simply an S-video lead – again, a cheap accessory.
However, it appears that cheap S-video cables frequently do not have the shielding connected to the plug surround, and just wire up the four internal pins. And the Radiolinks need 4 cable connection – 3 of the pins and the shielding are used, with the shielding as ground.
I could buy more and more expensive S-video cables until I found one with the shielding connected. However, a cheaper solution would be to join the Radiolink socket shield to the unused 4th pin inside each radio, thus providing 4-cable connectivity.
This sounds rather non-standard practice, but I can't think of any other reason not to do it – it seems safe enough to me. Unless one of our electrical experts can point out a flaw that I have missed…?
