I have been using a Robbe F14 Tx with 6 channels plus an extra proportional and switch module for some years on a Robbe Dusseldorf model. I think that the battery pack has failed as it doesn't charge effectively. Looking at the battery pack, it is a 4 x 2 arrangement of sub c Nicads cells rated at 1400 Mah. I am not sure why it uses sub c cells. My other radios use AA LiMH cells. Does anyone know why an F14 would need sub c cells?

I know originally it could run for hours on one charge. I am thinking of using a 2600 Mah pack of LiMH AA cells, even if this means a shorter time between charges.

      Can anyone offer any advice?

      Thanks

      Tim

          Hi Tim,

so long as you supply the correct voltage to the transmitter it really does not matter what batteries you use – whatever you can get in. Just replace the battery pack with a new NiMh pack, you'll get the battery life back. Once Nicads start loosing their capacity its time to change. Just take care how you dispose of it, local supermarkets now take batteries for disposal.

We have planned a set-up for 12 transmitters in a row, all fed from a single master car wet battery at 12volts, and each being fed a regulated 6 volts from it via a jack plug.

2600 mAh will give far longer between charges than 1400 mAh, believe me. Can you get LiMh batteries?

The F14 and F16 are large transmitters of the "tray" type and have very long telescopic aerials. You may find that substituting smaller lighter batteries will significantly alter the 'balance' of the transmitter and make controlling the model more difficult, particularly if you're the type who holds the transmitter in both hands rather than uses a neck-strap or tray. I would suggest 2600-3300maH NiMH cells in the same arrangement as your present packs. If you contact Component Shop they can make up a suitable pack with the correct connector.

The F14 has been around a long time. It probably used sub-C cells because at the time they were the only game in town if you wanted long run times. Back then, the top of the line AA cells were about 650mAH as opposed to the 1400mAH fitted and the 2500mAH that is common today. The only real downside that I see to fitting a higher capacity battery is that you have to allow longer for recharging.

                Thanks All

I will dispose of the 'old' pack responsibly. I use a neck strap so I should be ok with any weight imbalance.

I will get a new pack on order.

                Thanks again

Are you sure about "LiMH"? I've never heard of these and I can't find any reference to them anywhere.

                    Sorry NiMH
