      Is there a silent 10 or 15 amp E.S.C. available ?

I have tried a number of them mostly Mtronics and found all have an emitted sound at low throttle settings, I understand the cause of the sound is the switching frequency of unit but this must be interpreted into audio by an oscillation of a non fixed componant or part of within the unit.

I am sure Dave Milburn will be onto this and give cause and reason (please do) but I look forward to practical comments from whoever would like lead me to a silent E.S.C.

      Thanks, Ken.

In short, no. The MTroniks appears to emit a high-pitched whine, but the noise actually comes from the brushes and armature of the motor. This is because the frequency of switching the voltage on and off is very high (3KHz). There's nothing loose inside an MT ESC – the things are soaked in epoxy resin!

ACTion Condor ESCs work at 50Hz and thereby avoid that high-pitched squeal, but they do cause most motors to emit a low pitched rumble at very low revs. I guess this is much less objectionable than the 'MT squeal' but I haven't yet come across an ESC which renders the motor totally silent at low revs.

            Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply, I had wondered if there was a winding or somesuch which was beyond the reach of the potting compound, possibly within it's own discrete componant case, I appreciate you explaining the mechanics of the noise.

I will have to try one of the Condor units, a low frequency 'rumble' would be more acceptable than the 3 khz squeal.

Any other comments from anyone ?

            Ken.
