Grandson & I had a brilliant day Boxing Day, the maiden voyage of the Alice Upjohn which has taken almost exactly 2 years to complete. She went like a dream, only 2 problems, slight list to stbd, corrected by shifting the battery across a bit & the brass insert came out of the red plastic u/j in the prop shaft. Easily sorted with super glue. Very many thanks to all who answered my specific questions & for the other answers I found elsewhere on the forum.
What next?
I want to do something with a bit more scratch type building, rather than assembling ready made kit parts, I had in mind a Clyde Puffer. I have a picture, stern view of the Snowflake, on which the wife's grandfather used to crew around the Bristol channel. From that picture she had the look of a puffer so I've done some digging on the www & lo & behold she was a Clyde Puffer that spent pretty well all her working life in the Bristol Channel. She was built as Maid of Lorn by Burrell & Co in 1893, sold to a Cornish company in 1896 who sold her 12m later to a Combe Martin owner. She stayed in the Bristol channel till1946, when she was sold out to the Greek islands and last heard of in 1990. A fascinating story, an exiled Clyde Puffer, & how my wife & I came to meet.
Any way, long story even longer, I'd like to do the Snowflake, at 1/24th. I now have half a dozen pictures of her. I don't want to do a generic puffer but dont know enough about them to work out what cant be seen in the photos. Now the big question, would I be able to get plans of the Maid of Lorn as she was built from anywhere?
Thanks
Stephen
