          Hi Cecil,

It depends on what type of model you are running! We need a bit more information.

Cecil, so many other variables need taking into consideration depending on the use or type of model it is powering. Just a couple to think about, there is pitch, diameter and blade shape as well as number of blades. All lend themselves better to a specific use. As Colin says we would need to know more about the type of model you are considering.

if you are thinking of a tug or a trawler, then a 4 blade prop with course pitch is the choice for torque and towing power.

….if it is, and you use the 400 motor, a cheap “ordinary” S35 two blade plastic prop would do. Not the X variety (with a very corse pitch).

I find the three blade plastic props have a very poor reverse being very low pitch, although a 35mm one would likely be ok speed wise. Get one of each…they are very inexpensive!

I am surprised. What voltage are you expecting would be used? I would have thought that an S35 was overpropped for a 60gm 1667kv Mtronics M400 brushed motor.

For considering Pro Boat Recoil 2 26"

Chris. 7.2V. this is what I have fitted to all my speed 400 motor/boat combinations really….it the Mtronics one a bit weedy??? i sort of assumed the Mtronics one was on par for a 400 .

In point of fact i dont think you can get 30mm s types now which is a shame.

Googling a pro boat recoil 26 inches comes up with quite and expensive brushless boat type????

                          Hi Cecil,

Forget a 400 brushed motor for the Pro Boat, It would be like Driving with Miss Daisy, go 2 blade prop with a brushless motor & Lipo like the ready to run version is fitted out with is the way to go

                          Regards Ray

I was not thinking that the Mronics was weedy but rather that is would be overloaded. I don't like my motors to run hot! You obviously know that it will be OK. I have never built a planing model so please ignore me.

I suspect that the reference to the Pro Boat is because it is a similar size and thus could help with motor selection. Unfortunately the Pro Boat is a 35mph high speed model that uses a 4335 brushless 2300kv on 3S and uses a 100A Esc. This is surely way over the top for this model.

I have no specific knowledge of the Mtronics M400 it was just that an S35 prop sounded very large. Now I know that I am wrong. What ampage does a 2S 400 with a S35 prop draw?

This is my Cigarette 26" long with a brushed 600 on 7.2 volts & 35mm 2 blade prop, she gets up and planes in a scale manor but is not ballistic, the hull is fairly light so not a bad comparison to the Pro Boat.

Er…no idea! However, although they get warm, they don’t get hot and neither does a 15A viper esc.

Strictly speaking it probably is a bit overloaded, but the motor seems to manage ok. I will try and remember to get a wattmeter on one next time…although they are few and far between now.
