Hi folks ,I am after 25 years about to change my old Delta scroll saw as it is now more worn out than I am.

I am thinking of a Proxxon DHS 2 speed scroll saw and wonder are there many of you with a similar unit. Your comments and experience with it .

My reason for my selection is I wish to use pinless blades for internal work as Elaine has got fed up with having to come to the workshop to help winkMichael

          Hello Michael

I noticed the chap building the big TEV model, uses a Scroll Saw

          He loves it!

            Mike,

I have no personal experience with that particular scroll saw, but I do own several Proxxon table top machines, including the bandsaw and the wood turning micro lathe. My scroll saw is a Dremel, which, alas!, is probably the tool purchase I most regret, as I do not like it very much (clumsy and heavy, difficult to set blade tension properly, pass length on the smallish side).

I have, on the other hand, been happy with my Proxxon tools. The quality is perhaps not Rolls Royce level, but they do what it says on the box with sufficient precision, and are sturdy enough for their size. To the extent that they have limitations, these I have found stem mainly from just that: the small size, which is logical enough, I'd say, and anyway, should not really matter when it comes to the scroll saw, which is more or less standard size for that type of tool.

Were I to replace my Dremel scrolll saw (which will happen one of these days), I would of corse aspire to a true Rolls Royce of a scroll saw, namely a Hegner (**LINK**), but given that one of those babys will set you back nearly a grand … I don't think so, I'm afraid, and I would at least take a serious look at the Proxxon machine.

Hi Mattias .Thanks so much for your comments .I have looked at the Hegner scroll saw but at my age it is a prohibitive cost as I do not have family to pass it on too.

There are a few sold on ebay but I am always doubtful of second hand tools and most are sold with a buyer collect attached to it

You do know that most saw allow you to turn the blade holder at 90 degrees so you can cut as long as you wish. The only draw back I found was using cheap pinned blades which are not always set square and the kerf seldom lasts very long .Thanks again winkMichael

                Hi Mike,

I have had a Proxxon DHS scroll saw for about 5 years. It cut out all the frames for Shemarah and Spider J with no problems. It also gets used regularly for lots of other small jobs. I have always used pinned blades and not had any problems in that respect. The only fault it has developed is that the little plastic bellows that generates the puff to blow the sawdust away has now split. I have not yet worked out where to get a new one from. It does not stop me using the saw, just makes it a bit difficult to follow the pencil lines.

Hi Gareth Thanks for your response ,I have been thinking of a new saw for some time, and Elaine is fed up coming out to help at times The reason for going pinless is the difficulty I am having cutting out internal cuts ,2hands and 3 required

Proxxon seems to be the best on the market for the price I,ll soon find out winkMichael

                    Gareth,

There is a spare part request form available on the Proxxon website: **LINK** … otherwise, their UK agents seem to be BriMarc (**LINK**).

                    /Mattias

Hi All I took the plunge and bought the Proxxon Scroll saw and am delighted with it .Due to my heavy handedness I rounded the bolt which pinches the pinless blades .

I contacted the importers on Friday at 15 20 hours with my request and at 1030 hours today Sat received a complete blade pinch assembly

The reason for this post is to commend Axminster Tools for their rapid service . A company worth keeping in mind when you next wish to purchase something and expect great after servicewink
