I have just started reading Glynn Guest's Vivace article in the June issue of the magazine. This model employs waterjet propulsion very effectively using NQD Jet Drives as fitted to some RTR models which come at very attractive prices:

Not really my scene but I think a number of our members (are you listening Ashley?) could really exercise their imagination with these units.

Colin. Are you seriously suggesting I BUY a waterjet unit??? wink

One project is "on the list" but this will have a home-made waterjet.yes

They are certainly cheap enough, assuming they last…dont know

Ashley, you can afford one given all the money you save by using hardboard….

I know, what about a water jet powered Ellie Hull. Well Paul, what do you think? It would certainly move through the water well.

Having read the Glynn Guest article on building and running the water jet powered Vivace. Glynn makes a point of emphasising that the model tends to roll when turning and for that reason to make the superstructure as light as possible. As I am not keen on using balsa but prefer softwood, and ply for building hulls, with Plasticard for the superstructure. My thoughts therefore edged towards a twin hulled vessel (for stability) but utilising the water jest propulsion system. I appreciate that a linkage could be devised to operate (simultaneously) both steering mechanisms within the two jet units using ONE servo. However, is it possible to use two separate servo units i.e. one per jet unit?

I have a WJ and was thinking of using it on the Vivace , possibly make it a tad wider..

These units would make great power sources for catamaran type ferries. As David says, you could install one in each hull and the catamaran design would give more options for a superstructure without compromising stability.

                        Hi David

Your worry about twin hulls, use 2 servos on a Y lead both will move at the same time, also with twin motors you could have 1 ESC with 2 feeds 1 for each motor or 2 ESC's with a Y lead, remember to Disconect one of the BEC supply's.

                        Hope this helps

                        Mark
