Hi All , Is it best to have the linkage arms as near to parallel with a double rudder system ,or is best to have the servo arm longer or shorter than the rudder arms the model is a large Perkasa MTB.

          Hi Cookie

With your rudder, have you got twin rudders? or one rudder with push pull connection to the servo????

With ether set up you only need one push rod, with two there is every possibility of binding if the are not identical both in length and on bend angles.

If you are concerned about the push rod flexing, use thicker push rod, i use bike spokes.

Alternatively do as the aero boys do and bind 1/4 square balsa along the pushrod as a stiffener.

Servo arms need to be slightly shorter than the tiller arm on single pushrod, it stops the arm going over centre

          Regards

          Mark

Hi Mark , I am having twin rudders but i have a mechanism in the center to lower and raise the transom flap so unfortunatly i have no room for a linkage to connect the two rudders so i was going to use 2 servos 1 for each rudder and a Y lead to the receiver can you see any issues with this , I got a servo from Action for this thinking i had room for the cross linkage so now i am going to get another identical servo so they will be the same on both rudders.

            Regards Dave yes

              Hello Dave

Your idea of having a servo on each rudder is a good idea!

A few years ago, I read a snippet, whereby, ships entering harbour, would turn both rudders inward

Can't remember the reason or how the craft performed, but you could play around with the idea!

Hope somebody can enlarge on this?

              Bob

Hello Bob , Thanks for that , The sooner i get the Perkasa done i can get on with Brutus , I want to put some serious motors in Brutus do you and Paul think it will handle OK at high speed.

                Best Regards Daveyes

                  Hello Dave

We are really looking forward to your Brutus build!

It`s really crying out for two powerful Brushless motors

I think Paul is thinking about a mod at the extreme stern, to avoid the possibility of water getting in over the hatch

I would suggest moving the props, hatch and rudders forward about 75mm, but keep the existing shape?

                  Bob

BTW…..You never told me about your loco builds, when we were chatting at Haydock

                      Hi Bob

With both rudders working independent, one ahead, one astern you can manoeuvre, with no forward movement. I have used it way back, on one of my tugs, now l'm old and slower. Hope this answers your question
