If anyone knows where I might obtain a mounting for a Monoperm Super motor please let me know. The motor diameter is about 30mm and runs on 6v with a 3amp maximum. The mount is made of plastic type material and has lugs fitted to accommodate the motor which has two tiny holes, possibly for screws to aid fitting. I haven't tried to use screws and don't know if they would be sufficient to support the motor without the aforementioned lugs which have broken. It might of course be possible to fashion a metal mount if I can find suitable screws which would have to be extremely small. Someone, somewhere will probably be familiar with these motors and mounts and can I hope offer advice. Thanks.

These motors have long since ceased to be manufactured and are now collector's items – I've just seen one at £42! Unless someone has a dud motor with a serviceable mount kicking around then you'd be best advised to remove the mount and either fashion a new one from sheet metal (like those fitted to the MFA 540 motors) or mount it in the Vee between two triangular wood blocks and hold it down with rubber bands. Here is a photo taken by Bluebird of the motor fitted in his Swordsman (I hope he doesn't mind me using it!):

DM hits the spot again. I generally use an arrangement similar to the above, but put two bits of 4mm studding either side and a cross-bar between these to hold the motor down (with some closed cell foam to cushion this against the motor)(or a bit of inner tube rubber).

I am not a great fan of the bent metal mounts..too often they flex too much, and you can never get at the screws when they are in the boat…not an issue as pictured!.

Sell the motor for silly money and get some nice new 385`s….

Hi I have had a problem mounting small motors when on a trip to my local hardware stores I had a flash of ,you know the rest In a box of bits I found a pair of steel clips (used for holding pipes) single screw hole which when screwed down holds my 380 sized motors very well Use two and you will not turn the motor they come in two or three different sizes and cost about 40 pence . Hope that helps Michaelwink

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions which I am considering. Perhaps I should add that the boat in question has two Monoperm and one Decaperm motors so if I were to choose the replacement route would it be best to fit two 385s and leave the Decaperm or put three new ones in? If so what would be a suitable alternative to the larger motor? I see there are 385's advertised on e-bay at just under £4 each and mounts are available too so it would not be expensive if these are recommended by you knowledgeable chaps. Working space is tight and it might be difficult to make up mounts but use of a metal clip could be a possibility so it's back to the drawing board for me. Cheers!

MFA's 385 motors are available with mounts (e.g. from Component Shop) which are pretty similar in size to the Monoperm ones, at least as far as the footprint underneath the motor is concerned. Mike's tool clips are a good suggestion but they do raise up the motor quite a long way from the mounting plate.

On the basis that "if it ain't broke" etc then I'd suggest leaving the Decaperm in place. The only comparable motor is the geared MFA 500 Torpedo 2.5:1 here **LINK** (use the 6:1 for a 12 volt supply)

Here's a drawing of 385 motor and mount

For various landing craft i simply used a hot glue gun to glue the motors to the base of the boats. Works a treat (obviously as long as the motors do not get hot, which they should not…and they would have to get very hot to melt the stuff). It will peel off with some persuasion no trouble for "maintenance".

Silicone bath sealer also works fine.

After careful deliberation of all suggestions I think the best one for me is Dave's (supported by Ashley )and I have ordered two 385's with mounts from Component Shop. I'll leave the Decaperm in situ and replace the two monoperms which I wouldn't mind selling if I can get something near the price indicated. Did one actually sell for £42 or was that just the asking price and where was it advertised? Although space in the boat is limited I don't envisage difficulty in tightening mounting screws should it become necessary and Locktite is always available. My choice here is of course purely personal and based on the layout, my own ability (or lack of) and ease of alteration. I am grateful to everyone who offered advice and this should serve me in good stead for any similar situations arising in future. Kind regards to all.
