Could, not get to the lake today, family issues. Boats all ready to run so a bit dissapointed with the wasted day.Theres always next week. Was thinking of changeing the 4 600 motors for 4 385 mfa jobs. on the fairmile. not powerfull enough? any thoughts . Steve.

A 385 on 12V will produce about 10W while a standard 540 on 12V will produce about 34W. Unless the Fairmile is uncontrollable with the 600 motors then I'd not change them – maybe just reduce the voltage if it's too fast.

Steves issue is (possibly) too much current draw rather than a blistering top speed. His speed as seen on the pond wasgood..a good scale speed for his…5 foot? Fairmile D. Fast enought to look , er, fast but not ridiculous.

You could try some Graupner ECO 600`s, they are not so juicy, or failing this some 555`s…and these might turn slightly larger props than those fitted to restore a bit of speed lost by fitting less powerful motors..

Smaller props might actually do the trick…and dare I suggest it, but plastic two-blade props work fine with high speed motors..for running on the pond, and are cheap. A bunch of S and X pitch 35 and 40mm sizes will not cost much and give some scope for experimentation. Keep the brass ones for show??

Weed on the pond sunday and probably just as well you did not sail as rescueing a boat your size and with all the sticky-out bits on it would have been tricky!

Thanks Ashley, spoke to cornwall boats this morning about the motor thing, They recomended that I try using 2 of the 600 motors and see what the performance difference is. I have taken out the 2 inboard motors and will (hopefully) test her this weekend. got some 32 mm props as well. The run time and weight are my main concerns but I dont realy want to go over to brushless. spent enough already.. ps 18 crewmen now, and a prisoner, but his time is running out!!! Steve.

Steve. I have a feeling that you need an ammeter to see what the various combinations of motor are drawing. Unfortunately with such a large boat and 4 shafts you are going to have to try a lot of options.

                What voltage are you using?

7.2volts. to each esc from 2 packs,  frustrating , having to wait for the next  sunday to test a minor modification.  gonna have to build a 6 metre trough in parents garden!!
