In view of the fairly monentous date this Sunday (or Saturday if you want to be pendantic) I shall be sailing myTitanic. I may put a small black pennant on it for the occaision.

I think anyone with a Titanic ought to be out on the pond/lake/canal/sea or wherever it is they sail, in memory of the ship and the passengers who perished on it.

I believe it struck the dread `berg in the dying hours of the 14th..not sure our park is open that late, but I shall be there to sail the (fairly realistic, from a distance) representation of a legend on Sunday morning, usual place

I don’t think that I will ever understand the stupid arrogance of Bruce Ismay and the complete absence of common sense from the Board of Trade in allowing the Titanic to sail without enough lifeboats and the fact that it took the sinking to make regulations change.

We might bemoan the health and safety orientation of today’s society but I willing to bet that the 1500 poor souls that died wouldn’t be complaining if some official busybody had interfered in 1912.

Firstly, I did sail the Titanic this morning, despite the freezing cold wind (for realism) and the somewhat oversize waves on the sea. The swans were doing their best to imitate "the iceberg" but alas were too manouverable to let me bump into one.

Paul, couldnt agree more, but its the same thing today, the sinking of the Concordia will be bound to bring more regulations along. If I remember reading correctly, Harland and Wolff wanted to fit many more lifeboats on the Titanic, but they were over ruled by the board of White Star line as the extra lifeboats (above that required by law) cluttered the look of the ship. Not that of course the extras would have been enough anyway. but the more the merrier.

Did you see the telly program on the other night "why ships sink" (or something similar). Made uneasy viewing !

It is a good job the water was not freezing cold and the Concordia was not offshore a bit more, as only half the lifeboats could have been launched.. would have made the loss of the Titanic very small game in comparison!! 6,000 bods on one ship!! blow that for a lark.

Although some things have come along over the years, for instance the lifeboat for the bridge crew is now apparently much more accessable…

You must be very laid back..Have you ever thought about carrying a wee notebook, and recording every hilarious and original (for each comic) comment, and on the 100th,present him (gals would not be in any interested) with an iceberg made of plastic foam, and with Twerp, written on it in ice blue paint…

Paul,Ashley,Always wise after the event.Butn the attitudes of the early 20th Century were completely different to what they are today, and legal.I am not going to add any more to endless theories about Titanic, many of which are from authourities who have never been to sea.The Master made a mistake, and so did Master of Concordia…End of.
