As many of you already know I like my ships to have a lot of details. This not just makes the model more interesting but also somehow brings it to life. Now my model of the Steam Tug J R More which is being built on 1?32 scale is an ideal candidate for exceptional detail because of her large size. So what i did is I built several little machines to help me achieve my aims.
One of the machines I built was a riviting printer machine. But as i thought about it, I realised that I would have to keep on changing the sprocket wheels for the different rows of rivits. Not only that I was also limited to the distance of where the rows of rivits had to be printed along the sheeting. So I changed it completely and NOW I HAVE EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED.
Have a look at my new album New Rivitng machine and the results I now get from it. Enjoy it!

          Hello BB

An excellent machine…..I love it and the result is so precise and pleasing!

I like rivet detail on hulls…..there`s nothing more off putting than a super smooth shiny hull!

My rivets were done the hard way…..one at a time with a centre punch!

            Thanks Bob,
If you want to know where the sprockets come from, they come from an old cookcoo clock. Try the shops which sell watch making kits and parts those are the best places. I went to a place like that here in Pretoria (RSA) and there are very nice odds and ends in there. When visiting a place like that you can not go in there without a decent amount of money because of all the nice little tools and things they have for uses in model building. Regards Bernhard

Hello B.B That is a fantastic solution. With the machine, the problem with the rivets are solved in minutes. Many thanks B.B
What was it like to lead the sheet through the machine the first time and see that the result was so good? Was it difficult to get a straight line?
Now I know that I should find an old co co clock.
              Many regards, Ole

                Hallo Ole,
Leading the sheet through the machine is very simple and easy. The sheet I display in my album was the very first sheet I passed through the machine and making all those rivit marks took about 1and ahalf minutes. I must add here that my machine is not 100% complete because I still want to add a guide where the double row of rivits are printed. It will also be adjustable. But the machine is very, very easy to use. The dot matrix rubber roller I cut a piece off and this I use on a hard rubber mat to roll the metal straight after it has gone through the machine. There is actually very little bending of the metal during the process
                Regards Bernhard

                  Hello B.B
An adjustable guide is a good idea. It would make the machine even better.
Good that the bend in the metal is not a problem. The metal extends a bit I guess.
I look forward to creating one of the same type.
Must again thank you for the good idea.
                  Regards Ole

As soon as I have completed the rivit printer I will post more photographs and for those interested I will make a drawing of the machine with the dimensions included. I am pesent putting varnish on the bare hull and then I plan to moisten thin cardboard files which will then be pinned onto the hull. This will take on the shape of the hull and then I can do all the markings on the thin cardboard. These markings will then give me the shape of the plating as well as where to print the rivits later.

I will post more on how my project progresses with pictures.
Regards and I wish all inspired and happy modeling,
                    Bernhard

                      Hi B.B.
the critic will come and do a check on that machine on Saturday afternoon. L.O.L.
Looks like a nice idea and ROBUST as well.

                        Hey Archy,
I have been nice and busy again. I just made a new joggling machine today. I started your bait boat buckets today as well. So they should be finished by Saturday.
                        Regards,
                        Bernhard

                          Hi B B
We ran late with the show last Sat. but let me know when you have finished the buckets. I also went to AMT to collect silicone for my moulds. They had a course on Sat so i gate crashed their shopping time at 5PM. They are not open Saturdays as a rule.
                          Regards
                          Archie
