          Hello Phil…….This is a similar…”dog chase boat”…….scenario

Taken at Bury Lido………Fido was no match for the intended prey!

Now that brings me to the question of whether or not to put my boats (including submarine)  on the river at my daughter’s holiday home near the Breede River in Western Cape, South Africa.  There are big Cob, big Barble and the odd shark in the river and while they have never worried us swimming, a model boat on the surface may be an attraction to them.  I would hate to see a model disappearing down the throat of some hungry fish!

              Any comments?

Make sure you build really big boats!

In our pond there are some really big carp and…other big fish, they come into the boating pond possibly in the mating season and lurk just under the water and look like big submarines. The boats are constantly bumping into them. They dont seem to care at all.

Mind you we have no sharks….

We have a similar problem when we sail at Cricket St Thomas (its where they filmed parts of to the manor born) the carp are huge obviously no sharks the real problem comes from the one pair of swans resident there when they have young the daddy gets quite aggresive with boats. nearly lost my 2 foot plastic tug to him once as he tried to board her. luckily she rolled upright again and no damage at all.

Anyone thought of TRAINING a dog to retrieve stalled or weed bound model boats?
Now that would be a good idea, save the rest of us having to wobble across the lake in a tiny club boat of questionable stability!

I was thinking perhaps of transmitting some sort of electronic signal from the boat.  They use this sort of thing to keep sharks away in the sea in some parts of the world.  Maybe a visit to the anti shark people in Natal would be helpful.

Dogs retrieving boats would have to have no teeth!

something I saw on the box the other day may be useful! It was on nature shock I believe where an orca killed a great white and simultaneously all the remaining great whites in a 30 mile radius left promptly. apparently it had to do with the smell of a dead shark in the water some scientists also managed to can the smell and the footage of them testing it on lemon sharks was very impressive. so the answer is catch one shark kill it and anchor the corpse up stream. then again maybe better to buy some of this shark repellent

Edit: after a little reseach have a read of this page

To use Ashley’s jargon: Ya dude, you catch the shark and I will do the rest!!
