          Hi Paul

For the 1mm a standard drill bit on slow speed and very little pressure.

For the others use the 1mm for a pilot drill and step up in sizes to the 4mm and 6mm.

I used a set of step drills for 4mm and 6mm.

A very cheap set from Banggood( 3 piece set).

Are you referring to the drill or the bits which fit into it? (Written before your latest post appeared)

For drilling I have several different options, depending on the item which needs a hole in it; the size of the hole, and the amount of grunt needed to get through the material. These range from hand-held pin vices through an old Stanley hand-brace and a Minicraft drill in a vertical stand up to a mains-powered bench drill , a Bosch cordless drill and my late father's venerable B&D pneumatic hammer drill. For bits I have different sizes of HSS ones from 0.4mm to 12mm, a selection of masonry and glass-drilling bits and a set of wood-boring bits with a centring point. It's only taken about 50 years to accumulate this lot!

This is a very good supplier of all sorts of drills and bits but they do have a minimum order value of £15 – unless you're lucky to live near them. Squires Tools

                Hi Paul

A dremel on slow speed is too fast, go manual or a slow speed cordless drill.

                  Hi Paul,

Have a look at the thread 5 down, Drilling holes for metal fittings, I think we did this subject to death before, the smaller the hole the faster you need to go generally, but use good quality drills HSS preferably.

                  Regards Ray

I cannot disagree with any of the responses made to date. For anyone wanting drill bits, I always point them in the direction of Tracy Tools based in Torquay. This company stock a whole range of engineering tools but have a look at their drill sets which are extremely good (HSS) and extremely good value for money. The company have been going for years and were already well established when i commenced my apprenticeship back in the 1960s. I have tried to post a link to there website but there would appear to be a problem.
