Hi everyone, I hope all is well in your world as it is in mine. Well project Whitehall is underway and I have a couple of questions.1. Can I rub down the glue/fiberglass inside the hull to smooth it out and neaten it up to look smart.2.Please do not laugh but can I paint the inside of the hull and the component parts as I put it together, my thoughts on this are (a) to make it look good and (b) help waterproof the bits. The reason for my obsession with it looking great is that the wife says if I do a good job then the next one will be bigger and more expensive!! (she is buying it for me). Regards Dai H

Hi Ray many thanks for your reply, you are right it is a 2 pce plastic hull and I just know that you are going to say why paint the inside of the hull and the bits.however have you ever heard that little voice in you ear saying "do you do this" and then "why not???" Yes my wife is a real diamond and I can do what I like when I like but is she asks the question then oh god I had better have the right answer. Hope to hear from you soon. Regards Dai H

              Hi Dai

You may need to lightly abrade the inside where deck beams motor mounts etc are glued to the hull, don't rub it down for painting its not that thick, a good wash in soapy water and dry is advised for plastic models, I guess this would be the same, some photo's would be good not much point painting the inside of all the hull only the parts you are going to see.

              Regards Ray

                David

Tell her that the "special inside-the-hull paint" is very expensive and smells horrible and it takes five days to go off – which must be indoors unless the outside temperature is over 20° or it will dissolve the plastic…..

Or can she smell bulldust as easily as my Liz can?

Dear Ray & Dave, many thanks for the advice I will do as you two advise.Dave as for bulldust as I spent 22 yrs in the army she just looks at me says"yeah right" then "ok go and get some then". I wish she could see the lottery numbers like she sees through my bulldust. Hope to hear from you soon and will sort out the photo's lark when the grand kids get here.Regards Dai H.

Plastic is inherently waterproof. Properly done joins should be as well.

Painting inside is good for reducing the light passing through. A lot of models look great until they get back lit unless there is an extra layer of light reduction. Always a good idea to make the inside top coat white or a very light colour – makes finding dropped bits easier.
