          Hi Wayne

Choosing ESCs is a contentious issue and one that not many people wish to become involved in so it is quite possible that nobody will supply a specific answer.

By way of being helpful the only way that I know to work out the choice of an ESC is to carry out an amp draw test on the boat when running fully loaded in water, the family bath is usually the best place to carry out this test although you should be prepared for a wet floor.

          Good luck

          Paul

            Hi Wayne

            Running 800watts I use a Hobbyking car 60A or 100A ESC (programming card required) on a D3548/4 1100KV 910watt motor on 4S in a 33 inch deep vee (40mm x 1.4 pitch prop).

Today it was 25F with a 15 KMH wind, I used up a 3700mah and 3300mah Lipo battery with NO PROBLEMS.

Both motor and ESC where ONLY warm.

I also use a Turnigy Watt Meter(code TR-WATTMETER), this is the best way of testing a boat setup I have found to date!!!

              For example, this one? **LINK**

I usually work by looking at the max amps that the motor is specified for, which is usually provided as part of the spec. For the motor above, its 'burst current' is 65A. Then I pick an ESC which is in excess of that figure. A reputable company's 65A ESC should be fine – for an unbranded Chinese one I might pick one 4 times that figure, and even then I wouldn't be sure about it.

Then you use fuses to limit the draw to the actual levels you expect…
