      HI All!

I'm a bit stuck here, I want to progress this hull, as its been sitting in the garage for ages! Its a 40" Huntsman hull, which has already been to a local model shop, to have motors fitted- they made a mess of it, epoxied the bearing ends on to the prop tubes, broke one of the couplings- a real cowboy job! However, that aside, I would like some advice on forming the bulkheads for this boat accurately. I do have a set of plans for the 28' version of this boat, but the hull is for the 31' version. I have ordered A frames for the prop tubes, as these are rather big. The props are 52mm 3-blade racing props, and the motors are twin MFA Torpedo motors. The deck build is the most important step- Have you any advice?

Hi Dean , I am building a 49 inch Perkasa and the bulkheads supplied in the kit did not fit at all , what i did with help from the lads on this Forum make cardboard templates a bit on the small side then cut 7mm ply wood to the templates , Most important make sure your hull has no twist before you fix the bulk heads , my hull had a 20mm twist in it so i had to correct it before fitting the bulkheads If your hull is flat them fit the bulkheads with Isopon P40 this as fiber glass strands in it and will set solid as a rock and will fill gaps up to 4mm . If you find your hull has a bad twist in it then reply to me and i will advise you on how to overcome that.

            HI Dave!,

            Thanks for the advice!

Just a point, I want to keep this model as close to the prototype as possible, hence the twin props. Do you think the motors will be big enough-  a 42" hull is a bit of a lump to propel!

                HI Dean

Your profile doesn't show your location, if you are South Manchester area PM me and i could help you out.

Depending on your motors size, always aim to keep the weight down, Light weight batteries etc

                Regards

                Mark

HI Dave, Don't know whether you received my reply sent from my iPhone!

The motors are MFA 850- I was after a pair of Graupner 850 race motors, but these have been impossible to find!

Hi Dean , They are 2 very thirsty motors you will need some serious batterys to keep them running at speed for 1/2 an hour or so , What batterys did you intend to use ? . I have had many debates will people about what motors to use in my 49 inch Perkasa ,I was new to model boating and bought a MFA850 and 2 JP 660,s without asking advise , That combination would have just zapped the life out of my batterys in 15mins, so i have binned the 2 JP 660,s and gone for 2 Club 500 , 550 fan cooled motors as they draw less amps , I am going to use 2 12volt 5a/h Nimh batterys wired in parallel and see how it performs before spending anymore money . Some people said replace the MFA850 with a MBB 900 motor but this as far less RPM even at 24volts than the 850 so i would not get the performance. You may start a new thread asking what motors for a Huntsman and see what advise you get off other members.

                    Dave yes

Hi Dave, I think I will!

I've read some posts on these motors, so I think I will be changing them!
