Hello, I would appreciate some help. I have set about renovating my late father’s model motor boat, approximately 50 years old. Radio control is all sorted with a more modern system, boat is ready to go on the water apart from adding some buoyancy but I want to keep the vintage diesel ED Hunter, Marine Engine. I have purchased some fuel and this is where my ability and knowledge ends.

Can anyone answer any of these questions please – what type of fuel tank do I need? How do I connect a fuel tank? Fill the fuel tank and start the engine?

Thanks Paul, that was very useful. I think I'm ready to give it a try by starting it on the bench later this week.

Unable to get the engine started, spent must of the day on it, so going to purchase a new engine. It would have been nice to get it running but to be honest I haven't got a clue. Any suggestions on what to purchase? Don't want to spend too much as it's just a bit of fun. The boat is a 1m long cabin cruiser and I'm not intending to race it.

                Hi Chris

The ED Hunter diesel engine is bullet proof and if freely turning over should be easy to start, its possible that the fuel that you are using is the wrong octane.

Regarding a new motor does it have to be a petrol/diesel unit or could it be electric?

Chris. You have to think about where you are going to run this if staying with i/c.

A lot of waters have banned them.

                  Electric is very easy nowadays.

                  Ashley
