      Hi all

      i have a 28" Cabin Cruiser with a MFA 540 Motor ESC is a P80 Condor 20A the Propeller is a 35mm 3 blade all running of a 7.4v battery .

the Question is if i put a bigger propeller on would it make the bout go a bit faster like a 40mm and dose the amount of blade make a biffrent to speed

      many thx dave

Dave. No easy answer to this one. The prop has to be matched to the motor characteristics. A 35mm prop is about the right size for yours, and possible an "S" pitch 35mm two blade plastic prop will add a bit more speed to your boat. Dont be tempted to fit anything larger! it will overload the motor.

Unfortunately there are loads of different 540`s out there, MFA do a "cooking" , relativly low powered one, or there are more than a few hot motors about.

I know this is not a lot of help but the motor may well NOT be marked up with its type so identifying it will be a bit tricky. Buying a new one would guarantee the type…a Graupner speed 500 for instance…however anything much more powerfull will begin to strain and overheat your ESC. The next up Graupner 500 draws a nominal 17A according to the blurb, for instance, compared to 9A for the speed 500. This will give much reduced run times to boot.

The MFA 540/1 is a "soft" motor and, like Ashley says, is relatively low revving. I would fit a Graupner Speed 600 ECO and run it on 7.2v to start with, increasing to 8.4v if required. Don't be tempted to fit a larger prop; my experience with my 28" Shamrock police launch was that a 1.25" dia 3-blade brass prop made the boat go faster than a 2-blade racing type (this with a bog-standard 540 3-pole motor). That said, I did also fit a Speed 600BB Turbo 8.4V and ran it on a 2-blade brass racing prop and seven cells – it was very unwise to make turns at full throttle! Talk about boiling the lake………..

hi and thankyou for the reply i wasent going to put a bigger prop on with out asking as i thought it may be to much for the motor but i will try a 2 blade prop and see how that works
