Paul, you old seafarer you.
As I typed, I was reminded that you had a (two part?) large Titanic but couldnt remember if you had sold it.
The young apprentice prefers to slob at home instead of braving the icy blasts out on the pond, but actually enjoys it once out. Likes showing off to all and sundry and actually can remember all the drivel regarding the boats that I have told him, to pass on to an admiring audience.
Tricky business this.. deciding what size and hence scale to make a boat.
I think you have to think of the practicalities of it all. Transport and weight etc. My car accomodates a boat 4 feet long (as positioned widthways) and so this is basically the size I build to. I can then carry other boats/planes or whatever to the pond to max on the diversity.
A 4 foot Titanic can be made to show lots of detail if you have the patience, but this detail is lost at 20 feet or so, and a fully detailed Titanic would not show to be that much better than mine when out on the high sea (most of the time). see my photos.
