Firstly hello to all this is my first post and I am a very inexperienced first build modeller.
My first project is a link between my other hobby and this new one, I am a passionate angler and have taken on a project of building a bait delivery boat.
The hull is of ply covered in fiberglass. The drive train is two 540 motors and I hope to have them running tank steering style. I have been advised by my local shop about what I needed. Today the time came for a test of the parts in the hull on the work bench. That is where the problems have really started !

I couldn’t get things to work, to explain, I wanted the left stick to operate ch1 the port motor and the right stick to operate ch3 the stb motor. I have two brushed marine speed controllers and coupled with the tx is a 6ch rx of the same brand.
The battery is 6v 10mah sealed type.

I just haven’t got a clue about all the programming on the handset ! I am ok with binding the tx to the rx (the online download helped with that) , but all that I have read says the handset is for helicopters ! I hope I haven’t been sold a duff !

I am wondering if anyone has the same set and can advise on settings to use , I ve played around with the handset and now don’t know where I am with it ! as I still can’t get anything to work as it should.I have check continuity on all power cables and all is fine as far as the power into the speed controllers.

By the way I have the two speed controllers but only one has power going to the rx as advised…I m at a loss as I thought that I could have independently controlled motors from the sticks using two seperate channels and then a servo controlled from the landing gear switch on ch5 to operate a bait dropping hopper.

Please go easy on me and sorry for a long first post.

      Kindest regards Dave.

Firstly I migth presume you have got this sorted by now, but if not, heres a few pointers.

1/ if you are using 2 seperate esc’s for individual motors,
a/ are you using a seperate battery for the recievey supply?

if NO, then it might be a conflict with the esc’s trying to act as “master” controller, you may need to disconnect one “power” wire to one of the controllers.

2/ i then see no reason why seperate esc’s should not work to control each motor, just remember to find correct channel for each on the reciever.

3/ helicopter type only means the throttle stick is right one, whereas boats/cars is left stick.

but being as you are using both for throttles anyway, theres no difference for you, apart from the one stick being spring loaded to centre off, but speak to radio supplier and he can supply you with a centering spring, so you then have forward/reverse on BOTH sticks.

make sure you remove the batteries in the reciever when you retfo fit this spring and lever, but once you power the transmitter back up, it automatically “adjusts” its controls for “centre off”, you dont have to do anything else.

let us know how you get on.
