Hi all, am new to boat building and have decided to build a scratch built Castle Class corvette (but in its later Weather Ship role)  from 1/96 plans giving an 80cm boat or from upscalled plan to 1/72 giving a 106cm boat. The reason I ask is that are 1/72 fittings (perhaps from plastic kits) more readily available than 1/96 or will a 1/72 scale be too much for a first time project?

I’m not sure, but I think fittings in either scale are readily available from Sirmar and Feetscale and possibly other outlets fo modern and less modern naval ships.

The scale to which you build, only you can decide, as to which you would feel most comfortable at modelling in.

Just as an instance….I started modelling kits many years ago at 1:96 scale, but over the years through preference of detailing(nothing to do with handling such small parts) I now model at either 1:32 or 1:12 scale.

so am afraid, your choice on scale to build at.

If you are new to boat building i would personally suggest that you go for the larger fittings because they are simply easier to work with , this is only my opinion and im used to being wrong as im married lol

As a builder in 1/96 scale normally and Warships, I find there are a lot of Royal Navy fittings avaialbe in this scale. John Haynes particular has a lot of fittings for sale on his website.
