      Hi

Thanks to all who have responded to a ‘newbies’ numerous questions, I’m almost there with a decision to add rc yachting to rc planes.

Have I got it right in that the only yacht capable of ‘in bag’ transportation ie on the bus, is the Laser ?

Because of illness and the subsequent loss of licence, my only option is bus travel and so far I can only find the Laser with it’s own bag, is there really no other yacht that can ‘travel’ the same way. For me, the Laser isn’t the best looking yacht out there and at almost £400 it’s very expensive for a newbie !

        Hello Roger

My first thought is how do you transport your model aircraft on the bus?

A handy sized popular yacht would a Micro Magic br Graupner…………………It well documented on the net

        Try this one……..http://www.hobby-lobby.com/micmagic.htm

          hi roger

transportation is one of the most common problems when it comes to boats getting to and from your local club without damage.

what i would advice is that most if not all yacht mast and rigging is detachable so dependant on size of yacht your thinking of why not make your own bag or better still modify one .

for example morrisons do a very good "bag for life"canvas bag and with a pair of scissors and needle and thread this would make a simple and inexspencive carry bag for many a  yacht.

            Hello Bob

My flyng field is 28 miles from home but fortunately for me, I have a friend with a large garage who not only stores them for me but after much presuasion, he joined the club and I taught him to fly – so it’s a lift to the field from his house as well as the storage !

It may be that when I’ve been a member of a boat club I can find a friend with another large garage !

            Hello Ron

Thanks for that, am I right in thinking that all the 1 meter class boats will have a removable keel ?

If they do then I would imagine the Morrisons bag will cope quite well

thanks to both of you for your help

This Question was asked about 2 weeks ago, either here or on Mayhem, I suggested a Fairwind as it strips down well and looks good.

is the keel likely to be detachable ?

http://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13766.0 dunno if this will help,i am not to brill at cut and paste.

                  Your link does not work!.

Fairwind keel does not come off,its all part of the hull, but not too bulky.

Are you checking your responses on " Mayhem " ?

                  Len.

RogerYou asking about transportation reminds me of when I left H.M.S Centaur after a Far East Commission,. During the time at sea, I had built a twin engine model  Mosquito fighter / bomberwhich was much too large to fit into a bus or a train to return to our home base which was Lossiemouth in Scotland. The wings for crash protection, were detatchable, and the fuselage was to scale, and fairly narrow. I got two empty beer cases and stuck them together end to endwith the card taken out where they joined. I then theaded fabric ribbon through the boxes very much like the shoulder straps on a rucksackso that I could carry my plane on my back whilst toting a suitcase in each hand and walk. A little foam rubber packing made the model secure in the box, and it arrived in Lossiemouth safe and soundFor your boat, I think a similar plan would work as long as the model was secure and protected against impact. a small compartment could accomodate the radio gear. The only difficulty I can see is the mast which you could make jointed to disassemble into two halves like a snooker cue. You could even fit a carrying handle in the middle of one side like a suitcase the only limit would be your imagination, and as youare a modeller, I see no difficulty in building it…………………………….MIke  …….D
