I have recently bought a 2nd hand torpedo boat. This i my 1st rc boat.It has a bilge pump built in but doent seem to work.

Also i dont seem to be getting the full power out of the boat,im running it on a 12v 7amphour battery but it still seems slow.

Would it make a difference if ichange the prop to a left handed one?The speed controller i have put in is a 40amp one, would it make a differenc if i was to solder these connections to the motor as there on lugs at the moment.Would it be possible to double up with another battery, also when in the water it struggles to stay in a straight line.Would getting a bigger prop help its currently got a 70mm brass 3blade prop on it.

Chris..just how big is you PT boat please? We need also to know what sort of motor you have, as a 70mm prop is a huge beast, and its no wonder the boat wont stay in a straight line, due the massive twisting effect from your prop.  Sounds to me like you may be massivley over-propped   (unless you say its 6 feet long and runs on a starter motor !   Plug in connections should be ok, and wont make much difference viz soldering as long as they are tight.  Ashley

Cheers ashley thanks for the advice and a quick response.

The boat is just over a metre long, ive looked at the motor but theres nothing on it that states the size, would it help if i put some pictures up of it?

What size prop would you recomend going for then, and could that be the why the water isnt going into the bilge pump which is located by the rudder?Cheersmat if ya culd help us out some more would be gratefull.

Chris. A 40mm prop and a 600 can size motor would be the likeley combination for your boat. Ditch the 70mm prop post haste and fit a 40mm size one, brass preferably, or better still borrow some from someone and try a few out. There is no hard and fast rule on boat/motor.prop combinations. 70mm is WAY too big though…measure the motor, if its an "ordinary" sort then the size should tell us/you approximately what sort it is. A 12v x 7AH battery is also not the best source of power for a planing hull, especially one of this relatively small size. The clue is in the word "lead". Dump the SLA and fit a NiMH pack; a Graupner Speed 600 ECO motor runs very nicely with a 40mm 3-blade prop on 9.6v.

Works for a whole load of folks; why not try it?
