      <p style=”text-align: center;”>Hi,</p>
I have been searching this site for any information on the KANOO RG65  yacht by John Goodyear and finding nothing.  Is there any information to be had?

      Kind regards Michael.

        Hi Michael

The article was published in the magazine in April 2020 along with the plan.

You can get a digital copy here:

        https://pocketmags.com/model-boats-magazine/apr-20

        of a print copy here:

        https://www.magazineexchange.co.uk/cw/model-boats-magazine-april-2020-issue-1.html

I am not aware of any other information – what were you looking for?

        Regards,

        Colin

          Hi

I’m having difficulty replying to your Email  about KANOO plan. So here we go :—-

The plan shows extensions to the bulkheads to create the curved deck. In the article on the  build these bulkheads are then elevated onto a spine why is not obvious to me when extensions are already creating the curved deck.

F5 bulkhead is shown as a single thickness on plan yet the photo in the article shows this bulkhead as a double.

There is very little detail on the actual sail construction.

There is no clear detail on the rigging layout .

          That’s all for the moment.

          Kind regards  Michael

I’m afraid I’m not a model yachtsman, maybe one of our other members can help.

I’ve only skimmed the article so far but using a spine is a rather odd way of introducing the curve when increasing the extensions would do the job but I suppose it does ensure you obtain a nice smooth curve and also it makes it easier to fix to and release from the building board as being a narrow hull makes things fiddly. The frames shown in the article only have extensions to elevate the hull above the building board to facilitate building the hull but they look to be all the same height so would not create the curve.

I’ll sort the magazine out and have a look at the plan and will comment further.

As regards the sails and rigging etc. it suggests to use those from the Dragonforce 65 with RC Yachts being a good supplier which I use. The kits come with instructions for assembling the sails and rigging etc. and are no doubt downloadable from somewhere. I’ll have a look and see if I can find them.

I don’t know what your budget is but once you start adding up the cost of the sails and rigging, servo, rudder, battery holder etc. it does start to get quite expensive to add to what is an inexpensive hull build.

Had another look and indeed in one of the photos which looks like a different hull, one of the frames has been doubled up. I don’t know why. If you feel that frame needs beefing up then do the same or use thicker sheet. Some of the other frames look a bit thin.

As far as the sails go I see he has made his own from Mylar sheet. Why bother if you are using the DF65 masts etc., unless you already have the Mylar?

                Chris

On reading the article I did get the impression that it was not altogether comprehensive and intended as an aid to experienced builders rather than a definitive build piece.
