Pity I didn’t see this post (due to the ongoing problem of my tablet not updating the forum for some reason) as I had an email from Dave setting out the history. As you say Dave designed it for Modav initially and it remained the same kit until bought by Anglian Model Centre. By then though the tooling was pretty blunt/worn out and they didn’t sell many before they folded. The history applies to the 34″ and 46″ Huntsmen.
As you probably know the big Huntsman 31 kit produced by SLEC whilst based on the earlier kit was modified by them slightly with Dave doing the drawing for the laser etched deck.
The Huntsman prototype that Dave refers to is the little one which you know all about!
The big 46″ Huntsman 31 was originally kitted by Modav in the 70’s, before that business morphed into Precedent Kits (aka Balsacraft). The rights to manufacture the kits were then bought by Anglian Model Centre who may still advertise the kits but I don’t think they’re made any more. http://www.angliamodelcentre.co.uk/presedent-farey-huntsman-model-boat-kits/44-large-wood-huntsman-46-model-boat.html
SLEC make a model boat called Samurai…….Samurai is a Japanese Swordsman…..and Fairey made the Swordsman as well as the Huntsman……so guess who designed the Samurai?
The current Huntsman prototype is for SLEC – who are the direct descendants of Balsacraft – so the whole thing has gone full circle, although it’s taken 44 years!
See you on Monday.
