      Hi All,

Being back at work is a mixed blessing! But at least I have weekends again 😀 the tedious but also enjoyable process of cutting out the bulkheads is done 😉 should start having something looking like a boat soon 👍

They look beautiful compared to the chopped up bits of ply in the hull of my Fisher. All glued onto the keel by today maybe? Looking forward to the next -and subsequent- photos.

        Regards,

        George

Yes the frames are looking good. I can now see what the extra bit of wood is for 🥴.
          That will make things easier.

          Following with interest.

            Hi All,

This is my method for installing a removable fin keel in the Eventide for better sailing performance, it's rather like a dagger board in a dinghy, with a slot for the 1/8th aluminium keel contained by a doubler both sides of the central keel which is 1/4" ply some packing of 1/32 ply is required to make it a good fit, it will have a retaining pin inside the hull to prevent it falling out once the lead bulb is attached to the bottom.

              Hi Ray. Coming along nicely.

Are you going to use a bulb or sheet lead to get the weight in the keel?

                Hi Bri,

It's one of my one size fits all 1 1/2lb cast lead bulbs in 2 halves, I made a plaster of Paris mould and hey Presto ! 😀 my little tsb,

Wild Duck, and the Comanche cat all have them, I'm all for standardisation. 👍

Have you been steaming the Brit yet ??

Hi Ray. That’s a good idea. Beats having all different ones. No steaming yet. The clubs a bit cautious and Wales has only been open to foreigners a few weeks. I have been to the cottage but not the club. I had windows and door in storage with lock down so took the opportunity to get them fitted. Any how that’s all done now so back to some modelling.
Swimbo going off with grandchildren next week so I may make some progress.

We had new PC’ s at work and the plotter has only just been re connected. I can have a go at enlarging the wild duck now.

                  cheers

                    Hi All,

Splashed out on a new mdf window board from Wickes for a building board, now epoxying the bulkheads in position, this requires a little adjustment to fit the keel, I like this part as we see the shape of the hull developing 😀

Interesting how things dawn on you along the way ! I had thought about putting the rudder tube in early for convenience, then realized the rudder blade will have to be soldered on to the stock in situ !! And make provision of a bolt on addition for sailing, chines & gunwhales next 😀

                            Hi All,

Chines & gunwhales from 1/4" X 1 /8" obeche strip in place and not to much jugging of the various notches in the bulkheads, always some re-alignment required, not bad this time 😀 now ready to overlay with tracing paper to get the 1 /32" skins the right shape 👍

                            Photo to follow 😮

                                    Hello Chris,

I will have a decent servo with a 4" lever for the mainsail & a self tacking jib on a horse, as it's only a cruising boat not a racer, I've been templating with card the bottom skins, which will be 1 /32" ply.

                                    regards Rayimg_20200830_184345.jpg

                                      Hi All,

Having spent the weekend 're-rigging a sailing barge, it was a good break and back on with the Eventide's bottom skins which sit on the bulkheadsimg_20200901_203818.jpg and butt up to the keel, finding doublers to much hassle and trusting internal glue fillets to provide a good joint.

                                      Regards Ray

Are you going to have battened down sails -as in the drawing- and only motor power? Or will you be able to sail her too? It will look great either way I'm sure. Lovely subject.

I didn't bother with a stern tube so she will have sail power only, makes life more interesting 😀 I love making motor boats but they are fairly boring after the first lap of the lake !!

Ray, I seem to remenber you mentioning considering a yacht with 'bare poles' so I wondered if this was it. I have to include a motor here in Norway. The local lakes are too big to wait for the breeze to retreive a boat and so far, I've been alone at the lakes I've been to!

I do agree that motor-only models don't have the same appeal as yachts -or sailplanes. Though I am temted by one or two motor-only subjects for the future.

                                                      Regards, George
