The ship is well documented

I believe it was touring the UK as a tourist attraction, when it foundered on the beach at Blackpool, about 1897

The ship was a total write off and was left to the mercy of the public salvagers

It must have been a real treasure trove, with all the stuff inside……It even had the cannons on board

I'll leave the thread open for members to submit their own accounts of the ship

There was and still is……..A thriving business of making and selling furniture, made from the ship's timbers

No doubt, there are plenty of forgeries out there!

Ahoy there, me Hearties! Ha! Ha!……In true Robert Newton / Long John Silver style!

This is an actual sail off the HMS Victory, in service on the ship at the Battle of Trafalgar!……..An absolutely frightening spectacle?

It fills me with genuine awe, when you see the number of cannon shot holes etc and think about the events of the day

Such good wisdom in keeping the sail for posterity?

Just look at the size of this Top Sail, compared to the people at the bottom of the photo!

Can you imagine……Sewing it together?…..and on what sort of  sewing machine?

It must have weighed about a 1000 lb!

Can you imagine, also, sailing across the Atlantic at 4 mph and back again, searching for the French Fleet?

Another treat for the Nelson crew

Found an old picture of Southport Pier and spotted the Man o' War out to sea

Searching the net, it appears to be the Foudroyant before she sailed to Blackpool and was wrecked in a storm

Lord Collingwoods log of his part in the Battle of Trafalgar is a wonderful account of events

The Admiralty was well organised in those hectic far off times and very impressive

Great Britain were well and truly……..A force to be reckoned with and almost unbeatable

It`s a pity, the photos do not have much info about the subject

Finally…..I wonder what became of Foudroyant`s cannon at Blackpool?

My parting shot, mentioned the whereabouts of the cannons which were on the ship, as it was wrecked on the beach

Just found a remarkable old photo, showing them actually tumbling out of the wreck!

What a waste?
