Some very impressive photos of Cunard's three 'Queens' sailing from Lisbon to Southampton to celebrate QM2's 10th birthday.

      Quite a sight!

Not a lover of the style of modern cruise ships, but must agree, this was 'quite a sight' (and a good item too).

What a great shame we had to go to other countries to have these ships built.

Couldn't help but notice, whilst in the local model shop the other week, plastic kit manufacturer Revell have issued a gift set of QE2 and QM2, at 1:1200 scale looks ideal for builders of plastic miniatures.

I have the big Revell QM2 kit but haven't got around to building and motorising it yet.

Is this the one Colin, subject of a product review some time ago on this site?

Must say I prefer the looks of the original QE1. A kit is due to be released in July this year at 1:600 scale by Airfix, which would be a difficult r/c conversion.

                Tony,

                Yes, that's the one.

Interesting to see that they are re releasing the old Queen Elizabeth kit. I have an unmade one in my workshop picked up when they last did a production run.

Back in the 1970s there were a number of successful R/C conversions so it shouldn't be too difficult with the gear available today.

Only in model boats could you get away with a thread title of "three queens together"…

Did you solve the electric pod conundrum Colin?

No Ashley, I will have to look at it again when I get things sorted out in my workshop and resume modelling.

Colin. had a thought…if you used one of those pumps that DM found (for the THOR), you could use the output and feed it through the swivelling thruster pods as water jets using flexible silicon tubing), rather than have little motors or fiddly gear drives…some dummy blades around the jet outlets would suffice for the stand…??

                        Ashley,

Last year Paul T kindly sent me some micro motors that will probably do the job although they will need to be run underwater. Sealing off the connector end is no problem but I was wondering if a small dab of silicone sealant around the shaft might be enough to effectively prevent water entry. I had just started to experiment with this when other commitments put a bit of a stop to actual modelling for a while. Hopefully I can get back on to it before too long.
