Details of the design of the RN's proposed type 26 warship have just been announced: **LINK**

A nice modelling project if you like modern warships.

Hi Colin yes the T26 project has been on the burner for some time and dare I say it should have been entering service about now and not in 5 years time.Still it will enter service and hopfully in sufficent numbers. I'm sure it will gain a following with warship modellers as it does look an attractive warship. All that's required is a set of drawings!!!!

            Hi Dave

Given the amount of detail that has been given in the press release producing a set of detailed construction drawings wouldn't present to much of a problem.

              Hi Dave

              type 26.jpg

I have had a long look at the Type 26 and it would be comparatively straight forward to draw up a set of construction plans for a model at 1:20 or 1:50.

Is anyone interested? (all fees donated to Parkinsons Society)

                Paul,

While it isn't my decision, it might be that a set of plans and a brief accompanying article would be something that Model Boats would be interested in publishing. You wouldn't be paid big bucks put possibly more than if you just relied on selling the plans via the Internet. Plus you would get the money in one lump following publication which might make a better donation.

                  Hi Colin

I am surprised as I would have thought that Paul would have had plenty of plans to choose from especially from established draftsmen such as Glynn Guest.

But it would be nice to have a drawing published.

Personally, and Mr Devils advocate speaking again, I would want to see the design finalised before printing too much. "Artists impression" or computer generated designs have a habit of not neccessarily looking exactly like the finished product.

However, so saying, and I will do, most of it will probably be the same. Unfortunately warships are getting to be like cars, all looking very similar within their class.

According to BAE the shape and size of the hull / superstructure are fixed and the only fluid bits are internal.

So in theory there is nothing stopping a model being designed.

Paul. Cant argue with BAE I suppose!! Is this the official drawing or something you knocked up over breakfast, you little devil you.

They are extrordinarily well armed for a british ship.. positively bristling with armaments.

Noteworthy is the number of small arms fitted for shooting at terrorists/pirates etc . Even the modified Phalanx is able to pot at dingies.

The camm missile is apparently blasted out of its silo with compressed air, and then the main motor is fired . This i think is called a "soft launch" and has a number of advantages, mainly not spoiling the paint with the initial rocket blast .

                          Ashley yes yes I know

                            Ashley,

Not so sure about the 'can't argue with BAE Systems because the design is fixed' They are part way through building our latest aircraft carriers and there still seems to be some uncertainty about how they are going to launch and recover the aircraft.

By the way, I have no axe to grind with BAE Systems, I worked for them for nearly 40 years so I think I know them pretty well. However I think the relationship between BAE and the MoD and the way in which major weapon systems are specified and procured leaves a lot to be desired.

I have emailed BAE and requested some more detailed information relating to the Type 26
