I thought there might be some interest in HMS Victory currently well into refit (June 2012). Particularly impressive were the fighting tops which are much bigger than they appear when mounted on the lower masts.

Very nice set of photos, the Mary Rose building looks like a crashed UFO.

You do get about with your camera……all expenses paid I presume..

No expenses Paul, just a day out with Wife and grown up Daughter who also likes the Navy and had a day off work. We can get to Portsmouth in about an hour so we had a look round the dockyard and a coffee then repaired to the nearby Gunwharf outlet centre for retail therapy for the ladies and lunch on the waterfront. After lunch we called in at Langstone harbour on the way back for a short walk along the foreshore. Very pleasant on what was probably the best day of the week weatherwise.

Yes, Mary Rose Museum does look as if it is likely to hatch any moment. It should be open by the end of the year and I'm hoping Model Boats might get an invite to the official ceremony – we shall have to see.

Beam me up scotty!! whowever designed the Mary rose hall?? or is it supposed to look like a ships hull?? or even an American civil war armoured ship.

I find the heading picture of HMS Victory, with the top masts removed….Somewhat sinister and awesome!

She looks as though she has just come in for battle repairs? I once saw a book, with graphic illustrations of the actual battle damage sustained at Trafalgar, beautifully record by J M W Turner……That was his trade at the time

The Nation is indeed fortunate that somebody had the foresight in ensuring the preservation of this magnificent ship!

They may have to recommission her for active service soon the way things are going. There is a whole gaggle of pensioned off warships moored forlornly in Fareham Creek at the moment as a result of the defence cuts.

Still, they would certainly save on the fuel bills…

The Navy will end up being a rowing boat armed with a catapult.

So much for Hearts of Oak… all those good people being thrown on the scrap heap just because some bankers were greedy.
