Colin, Depressing.

Its such a shame they could not be converted into "Patrol frigatees". The big gas turbines removed, diesels for the propulsion, only main gun and a Phalanx on the hangar as the defensive weapons.

After all,. mostly the fleet seems to be used for anti drug running, and showing the flag. These ships would be ideal for that, would not then need a massive crew, nor expensive maintenance on hi-tec radar and missiles, reasonable running costs, but a big hull for disaster relief, operating helicopters etc..

Sigh.

Wasn't there something of a campaign to save one of them – HMS Liverpool as a museum ship? something along the lines of the WW2 cruiser HMS Belfast.
