As Dave Wooley shows his ships in the Mersey, I thought I’d start a new thread for ships around the world that might grab one’s attention.

The first two shots were taken as we entered Le Havre early one morning in 2009, I always thought this would be a fine subject for a model.

And in complete contrast, back in 2005 we came upon this drifting down towards us whilst cruising the Nile, two very heavily laden sail boats indeed!

At first we thought they were going down, but no they were drifting by waiting for the morning wind.

Have you any particular favourites to share with us all.

              A couple of my favourites:

The Isle of Wight ferry Mv Brading towards the end of her career in the late 1980s and the old Queen Elizabeth shortly before her retirement in the late 1960s.

Entering the river MAAS , heading to the port of Rotterdam at any time is an overwhelming experience not to be missed as there is so much to see .
But little moves with out the boats of the pilot service and boy can they move.

                            Thank you, Dave

Just noticed that if you click on the picture……..It shows larger sizes!….Very impressive!

I had a struggle, loading the picture, because the browser kept sendng me to a blank AVG page, for some reason, but then it was ok

                            Will try another now…..zzzz

                              The Mercator at Ostende

We were there on the day the sails were being replaced and a crew member said the main sails weighed several tons each! They were dragging them up the galleyways with great difficulty!

Still had the AVG aggro, but was ok after several attempts?

this one is well rotten along the waterline, and a long way from here and the sea!

Saw this yacht, originally named Amnesia in a small harbour on Corsica. She was so long that when moored with her stern against the dock, there was barely enough room for other boats to get past her. Can't find the photo yet though.

Not a super liner nor a particularly distinctive ship but I had many happy crossings on the old King Orry just before it was replaced by the Ben-my-Chree

                                            king orry.jpg

It didn't matter how rough the weather was as this old ship would sail in anything upto a force 9.

                                            Happy days

One of the more unusual vessels I have seen was this one, the Dockwise Yacht carrier. I took the photo as it was leaving Fort Lauderdale in 2008, carrying some very expensive rich men's toys, probably off to the Caribbean for some summer cruising.
