Yesterday I visited the Isle of Wight and had a look at the old PS Ryde. She is in a very sorry state and i have added an album of photos.

          Very sad Colin,
I know it is the way of things to end at some stage, but just to be left to rot away does not seem right!!

Colin, Great set of pictures, very evocative. Would make a fantastic static “diorama” type model. Could inspire  me to make a Ryde paddler (minus rust). Whereabouts is it on the IOW?   and is it Googleable?  Ashley

I see the website still entertains hope of reconstruction! Quite honestly it wouldbe easier to buy a set of the original plans from the National Maritime Museum and build a new one!

Hello Ash………………..I trust you made use of all that stuff I`ve posted for yer!
That was Medway Queen………………and she was berthed next to Ryde at one time as a nightclub, but was picked as a worthwhile restoration……………..thankfully

Some people still think Ryde can be saved……………..all it needs is somebody famous, taking a fancy to it……………and Bob`s yer uncle!

                          Bob………………….(I`m not your uncle)

I see that there is some interest in paddle wheels. for some reason this reminded me of peculiar boat I visited when I lived in Portland. Its a 1947 sternwheeler tug called the ‘Portland’ thats still in operating condition. It was going to be scrapped in 1981, but was later sold to the Oregon Maritime Museum for $1. I had heard that this is the last working sternwheeler tug.
This has a gallery of the boat and a link to the Oregon Maritime Museum site.
