Hello, I hope this will be allowed (I'm not a regular contributor). I've inherited three excellent models from my late father, a museum quality scratchbuilt 1/16 Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter (sail R/C), a beautifully restored freesailer on a vintage prewar hull and a very nicely built 1/6 scale kit of a Mirror dinghy. I confess I planned to offer them for sale here but see that's not permitted. Can anyone offer advice on the best place to go please? I've approached shops and offered them in Facebook groups but had no genuine interest. Dad's old club (Broomfield Park, north London) is long gone. I really don't want to advertise them on Ebay or Gumtree if I can help it.
      Thanks in advance.
      Bill

          Hi Bill,

No, I'm afraid sales etc. are for regular contributors although they are far and few between as most of our regular members prefer to build their own models. We are happy to make suggestions though.

The main marketplace for model boats, where people look, is in fact Ebay.

Howes Models do buy and sell model boats – there is a contact form on their website:

          **LINK**

Other alternatives are local auction houses but it's obviously very hit and miss whether or not you will get a sale or a good price and fees are high.

There is one specialist auction house but they are rather selective as to what they will take and usually only deal in top end items.

          **LINK**

The Model Yachting Association may be able to assist:

          **LINK**

I would add that model boats don't typically attract high prices unless they are very exceptional.

          Hope this helps,

          Colin

                Hi All,

There must be building interest in bringing back the Free Adds section in Model Boats magazine to cater for us of a generation who don't use Ebay and other online formats and the like ??

                Just a thought, Regards Ray

It's already been suggested to the Editor – there are some recent posts somewhere. It does take a bit of work and time and at the moment can't be justified plus it cuts into editorial space.. Paid classified ads can be taken out of course.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I already tried Howes, no joy but I'll give the Model Yachting Association a go. Am I right in thinking the Vintage Model Yacht Group are defunct? Dad was a member but the website appears moribund.

                        Hi Bill,

Yes, I rather get the impression that the Vintage Model Yacht Group members are themselves vintage.

I think you may be stuck with Ebay I fear.

                          Colin,

I know we are getting on a bit but the Vintage Model Yacht Group are far from defunct, although I will admit that our website is definitely in need of major surgery and rejuvenation. However the contact details on the site are still current and if Bill wants to contact the chairman or secretary of the VMYG to see if anyone is interested in his father's models then he can do so. The website link is here:- VMYG

                              Bill,

We have a For Sale page on the Kirklees model Boat Club website that I manage. The challenge there is that you have to be a member of the Kirklees Model Boat Club to use it. Having said that membership is only £18.00 a year and then you can use the facility as many times as you want.

If you are interested PM me.

Thanks your support, and as your are in SA hope the modelling is progressing ? I'm just reading through the latest RCM&E magazine's Market Place Free Adverts section ! what a fine section to have in a magazine and a free plan every month

There has been a storm over here today, a few trees down etc etc

It’s a shame. You would have thought that the only model boat magazine on the shelf would corner the market and be chock full of quality artisan built boats for sale.

yes Ray, unfortunately not worth the bother of the lad trying to sell my boats as and when. In the bin.

                                              Hi Ashley,

Yes I agree it's only an idea, but everything is resource and financially driven these days, without new features things tend to stagnate , I liked your Russian airboats I have a 30cc four stroke that would work well.

Yes I have had to dispose of my Dad's and uncles workshops & models, and the skip solves a lot of problems.

I only build for the fun of it , who needs 35 + model boats anyway

                                                    Hi Richard/Ash

Yes I'm happy aeromodelling & boating, with a few steam engines/model railways thrown in

This Vultee Valiant American trainer has a 15cc four stroke at 73" span.

The 30cc engine is for a Harvard at 93" span.

Aeromodelling is much more expensive than boating, excluding fancy kits were the hull is done for you.

                                                    Another great building day

My only experience of RC aircraft are two holes in a Yorkshire moorland hillside.  18 months to build, 20 seconds in the air. Therefore I fully agree that "Aeromodelling is much more expensive than boating"!

Hence I went to RC boats around 30 years ago and, so far, only sunk one. But I retrieved it and it still works, unlike the aircraft that went in the bin.
