      Hello

my name is bob Hanley and my late father david hanley

was a model ship builder of mainly blue funnel line

He died 18 months ago and was just completing the hector to 1/8 scale ?

which he did have sold but to knowone else's knowledge

as he was quite a private person

he also has lots of half made up ships models about the house

plus a room kitted out for a model maker

my mother wants to sell the whole lot and

we were thinking if there was anyone in the north west uk

who would be interested in coming to look

      he lived in liverpool

were not looking for someone to come and steal it of us we

want a serious builder who knows the prices

and would like to do a deal on the lot

      Anyone interested please

      get in touch

      bob Hanley

Without wishing to be negative, I doubt if your late Father's work and workshop will be of much monetary value. It may be that there is a local club who could advise your Mother on the best way of disposing of the various items.

North West is a large area and it would be helpful if you could give a more precise location such as your town name. Someone on here might then be able to suggest who you might approach.

Model boaters are generally pretty honest and upright citizens so I don't think you need to worry too much about anyone stealing from you but neither should you expect to realise a significant sum from your Father's work.

To be honest Colin my dads models are sitting in shipping company's offices all over the world there not amateur jobs

They took over 12 months to build each one by hand so think the monetary part will be important as I hav wrote North west uk Liverpool is thee area

            Thanks bob

              Bob,

It that is the case then the amateur model makers on here are unlikely to be able to assist you very much. Charles Miller Auction House specialises in maritime sales and may be able to help you in disposing of any completed models. He specialises in high quality models only.

In general, the members of this and other model; boating websites tend to build their own models. Some people do purchase completed and partly built boats from EBay but usually only for quite small sums. Disposing of a partly built model constructed to semi professional standards could be quite difficult I think as there would not be much demand for this sort of thing.

As far as your Father's tools and workshop are concerned then perhaps a local club might be interested in helping to dispose of these.

The casual market for model boats is not very strong at the moment and this has been the case for some years now. Even completed models of museum quality do not attract high prices commensurate with the amount of work put into them.

              Colin

                Hi Bob

Over the last 5 years I've had to clear my uncle and fathers workshops they were both Model Engineers and model makers, does your fathers workshop contain machinery such as a lathe, milling/drilling machine where there could be some value. If so check the going rate before you consult a dealer, these second hand dealers advertise in the Model Engineer magazine. Regarding the models Colin is spot on regarding lack of value, maybe post some pictures on this forum to let people know what part built projects you have.

                Regards Ray

sadly I sent a pm to Mr Hanley to say that I was willing to go and have a look at what he wanted to sell, as I regularly go to Liverpool to see friends, although I have no interest in buying anything, as I can't sell my own lifeboats and gear as I am winding down in the next 18 months myself, due to increasing arthritis…………but he hasn't replied, and that was 18 days ago.

Sorry to hear of the arthritis Neil, it can indeed be a bit of a show stopper. Are there no remedies top keep it at bay?

Hi, thanks Colin, no not really, just pain killers and cod liver oil tablets.but its not just the arthritis in my fingers and wrists. I have developed degenerative spondylosis in my back and neck…….an when I went to the doctors just before Christmas with pains in both shoulders, thinking it was just more arthritis, I had x-rays done and found, much to the doctors surprise.that I have calcification of the tendons and ligaments in both shoulders. only way to deal with this would be an operation on each, leaving me without ability to drive for 3 months each shoulder. I blame it all on my 30 years of motorcycle riding in all weathers and then MG'S for the most of my driving life too, lol. Sadly I haven't sailed any of my model lifeboats for nearly two years as the only lakes I can sail on are such as at new Brighton and sheringham with raised walls where I don't have to bend. think that's why I'm so blinking grumpy all the time. anyway……getting on with my daughters ferry that has taken me 3 years to build, unheard of, and then may turn to laser cut kits depending on how I feel. thanks for the concern. neil.

                        Hello Neil

Bad news about the arthritis and degenerative spondylosis and even worse that its had such an effect on your life. Sometimes fate conspires to kick us in the nuts and it ain't funny.

                        Take care my friend

                        Paul
